Music Artists metadata not being retrieved by MusicBrainz

I have a number of personally created compilation albums where I have setup the Artist, Album Artist, Album and embedded an image on each song.

My mp3 folder structure is \\Server\music\Artists of the 80’s\80’s Chartbusters\Hollywood Seven.mp3

After loading this into my Music folder and having the Metadata Music Artist fetchers set to the default (MusicBrainz and AudioDB, Images : FanArt and AudioDB) and allowing Emby to retrieve the metadata, I get the “Album Artists” metadata retrieved and MOST of the “Artist” metadata. The Album Artists metadata is the image extracted from my own album cover on the songs with no Overview. Which is logical since its a "fake" album.

When investigating further I am noticing that the Overview data for the Artists is coming from the AudioDB site and the Images from the FanArt site. No data is being returned from the MusicBrainz site.

When there are artists who exist only on the MusicBrainz website, I can see the correct MusicBrainz Id is loaded but it will not return data from the site. This occurs even if I run the Search option again.

When I look at the logs, I can see an error for the Artist appearing on the initial search but I cant see any error on the second search, it just doesn’t return any data.

Example..

Jon English

Has a Biog and a photo on MusicBrainz

Has no Biog or photo on AudioDb

Initial search retrieved no data but found an MusicBrainz Id

I found this in the log (refer log file "First Search")

Tried using the “Identify” option, found him in MusicBrainz (the sameid that was returned initially). Did a new search to replace all Metadata. Still no Data (refer log file "Second Search")

This issue is not restricted to this Artist. I have a number of Artists where this issue is consistent.

Any help appreciated.  Thx.

Hi, historically we have only used music brainz to search and identify and then use that information to query the other providers such as audio db. This reason for this is due to very strict usage limit of the music brainz api. Using music brainz for everything is just not realistic. However, we recently switched to our own private music brainz mirror, so now we can potentially revisit this for a future release.

... you might think about putting the musicbrainz target server into the settings, so users can use other mirrors too, that should help to distribute the load (or allow users to use their own mirror) ...

Thanks for the update Luke.

Some of the artists in my Music Library are obscure and don't exist in AudioDB but all do have entries in MusicBrainz.

I'll look out for any future development around this.

Keep up the good work. Loving the App.  :)

You could add all the information to AudioDB and help the community.

Hello,

I just set up my own musicbrainz mirror. Is there any way to configure emby to use the local server? Since there does not seem to be a way to set a server in the UI I tried looking for a config file but could not find one for musicbrainz.
