Collections vs Views

Hello,

I recently set up MB3 on my mediacenter Windows 7 box. Bought the Surface RT client as well as the Windows Phone 8 client. I am confused on the Media Library settings.

I have created Music and TV libraries on the server pointing to the shares on the device as E:\Music and E:\Recorded TV. I also tried it with UNC paths but didn't see any difference in behavior. When on my phone, I see Music in the Music  View. I see the same music under collections. One the Surface RT I see music in the Main Page as well as under Music. One the Phone I see TV under collections but not under views. On the surface I don't see the TV anywhere. On the RT I don't see any way to see the collections either. Did I miss something in my install.

Thanks for your assistance.

The surface app is a little behind but an update is coming soon to add those features. We now refer to media collections as media folders:

so having said that, pretty much all of our apps display your Media Folders (except as noted, surface). Since media folders in mb 2.x are traditioanlly generic folder-based presentations, the views that you see in some of the apps are meant to be richer and more tailored to the type of content you're seeing, e.g. movies, tv, music, etc. However the views are more work and the developers are still working on building them, but just about all of our apps have updates coming. I think right now the web client is the best example of what you can expect from the other apps.

To add a bit more to the information. I recently stripped the comercials out of the Daily Show whith MCEBuddy and added that as a subfolder in my recorded TV folder. THose show up in the TV view on both the Windows phone and the RT.

and that's expected. the views are based on data and don't really pay attention to the file system.

You said you couldn't see your TV at all in a TV view?

That means you have a structure/recognition problem.  Your TV is not being recognized as such.  Please be sure you have followed one of the supported structures and naming conventions in the guides.
