Hello, I'm running emby server 3.0.7200.     I have some family members who access my server remotely.  My internet speeds are 30 down 10 up.    and before they have had no issues connecting and playing media from my server.

Now after an update. (not sure if it started with the 7100 update or before that)   But some of my family members who get a 5 down and 1 up connection  They can no longer seem to play media.

Any thing that is played if it's direct play or transcoding, it will seem to play for a min, then just stop or freeze.    I played with the Transcoding section, changing the H264 from Auto to all the way down from Veryslow to Ultrafast.

Even tried setting the Internet streaming Bitrate.

even when the user manually decreases the quality from 480p-3Mbs, to 144p the same thing always happens.

Now I understand that a 5 meg down isn't the ideal connection but they never had any problems in the past.    Does any one else have users that connect to the server remotely from a basic ADSL 5 down 1 up connection and have you had to make any tweaks to make it work?

Unfortunatly these users live in Rural areas, where they are lucky to get a 5/1 connection.   But like I said they didn't have a problem before.

Hi there, we're very sorry to hear about this. In order to best help you, please select a specific example, then provide the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. thanks !

Also I would suggest keeping those transcoding settings on default unless you're familiar with them and what they do.

Sorry, I think I was still waking up when I wrote this.  I will try again....  I hope I've gotten everything you are looking for.

My father in law is having issues streaming from my server.  Their Internet speeds are ADSL, 5 down 1 up.

I'm running Emby server 3.0.7200 with my internet speeds of 30 down and 10 up.

When trying to stream anything from my server via the web app either in Chrome or Firefox it will start to play for anywhere from 30 secs to about 2 mins. then just stops.

I have rebooted the modem and router.

I have been able to reproduce this on a friend's internet connection that is the same speed.   one thing I noticed was that on my Android Device, I was able to stream with the Emby app.   Sadly this is not an option he needs to be able to play via the web app

He is able to stream from other sites, like netflix, youtube etc...  and before was able to stream from my server without any problems, I'm not too sure when he wasn't able to stream anymore.

Have tried setting the Internet streaming Bitrate on the server to 4 megs down.  No effect.

even when the user manually decreases the quality from 480p-3Mbs, to 144p there is no change. it will still only play for 30 secs to 2 mins, then stop.

I played with the Transcoding section, changing the H264 from Auto to all the way down from Very slow to Ultrafast, but no effect.  It is back to Auto.

The play back is even set to auto for the user and that doesn't seem to make a difference.

I have attached two logs.  the ffmpef_log.txt is from when my father in law tried watching a movie.

Chrome uses a different transcoding method than firefox and should be a little more reliable.

are there any settings that could be tweaked in Chrome then?   because the same problem happens both in Chrome and Firefox

Have you run a speed test on this connection when these problems are occurring?

The 5Mb number is a max and not a guaranteed speed.  In practice, it could dip way below that at times.  It is possible that some external factor has made it slower now than it may have been in the past.

Yes I've done several speed tests depending on the different times, I get anywhere from 3.5 to 5.07 down.

Even on another similar internet connection which is 10down my speed tests are about 7-8 down.

I know and understand that the speeds aren't exact. I'm just trying to explore every option

When you say you were able to stream on your Android device, was that via the local network?  I saw another user mention really high CPU utilization when idle on the 7200 build.  What's your idle utilization look like?  Depending on your CPU, if you're idling high and then a transcode request comes along, it could potentially cause what you're describing.  Would also explain why the app worked, since it would be direct playing the file (assuming local network, of course).

The streaming from my android device is when I'm at my father in law's using his internet. But if we try from the web browser it will start the stop. Also some files will transcode and others will direct play but they all do the same thing.

This weekend I'm going to try the emby theatre program and see if it makes a difference

Anything inside my network is fine.. it just seems to be with a basic ADSL internet connection from outside that is trying to stream from my server

Sorry to dig this up but my sis having the same issue

I came to the conclusion she need more speed..her max is 6 down

meaning she maybe only getting 5

What exactly is the issue that she's having?

I would suggest having her set the in-app quality setting to a low enough value and then it will most likely not occur. In fact you could start at a really low quality such as 1 mbps and then work your way up from there. thanks.

Why not just set the "Internet streaming bitrate limit (Mbps):" on the User?
