Ben1929 1 Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 Long story short. Several months ago, I had Emby configured to use VLC as the player. It worked great and played all media. I was forced to idle my HTPC due to a relocation and I'm now getting it back up and running. After updating Emby and the WMC client, it is now using the default player. Unfortunately, I'm not getting audio on some of my movies. How do I setup an external player? I am using the Chocolate theme and I could have swore that the option was within the those settings. Has things changed and Emby now longer supports external players? Thanks.

Ben1929 1 Posted September 13, 2016 Author Posted September 13, 2016 Thanks Jeremy. However, I don't believe this applies. I don't do Windows Updates on my HTPC (Windows 7) to avoid problems like you mentioned. The last time was after I installed the OS early last year. Like I said, it was working fine before the relocation. The only thing that was updated recently was Emby. And now the option to configure the external player isn't in the place I remember. Where at it Emby can I verify the external player options?
Luke 42077 Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 It wasn't removed. Maybe @@Latchmor has a screenshot handy. 1
Ben1929 1 Posted September 13, 2016 Author Posted September 13, 2016 Man, I have scoured the client and server settings without luck. I can't seem to find the option to setup external player. Let me ask this instead. It appears that the default player has issue with DTS audio only, which most my movies use. Is there a way to get the default player to decode DTS? I have no problem using the default player. It seems rather nice. If only I could resolve this one issue. ;-)

Windows Media Center in turn relies on supported formats within Windows itself. You can try installing LAV Filters to expand the set of formats that Windows supports. You can also try our new app, Emby Theater, where everything is self contained in one download and just works: http://emby.media/emby-theater.html
Ben1929 1 Posted September 14, 2016 Author Posted September 14, 2016 OK, made progress. I played with my LAV filter settings. Not sure what went wrong or what exactly fixed it, but I'm getting audio again. Luke, thanks for the help. It didn't occur to me to check the LAV filters. Which in hindsight makes perfect sense. And I will check out Emby Theater. From what little I know about it, it does seem pretty slick. But my original question still stands. Where are those darn external player options in the WMC client? I would like to be able to use VLC if I should encounter anymore problems.
Solution ebr 16169 Posted September 14, 2016 Solution Posted September 14, 2016 External players are one of the few things that are still setup with the external "Configurator" app.
Latchmor 584 Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 It wasn't removed. Maybe @@Latchmor has a screenshot handy. If I wasn't asleep I would've helped I don't use an external player but I remember that it's set in the configurator. Glad you got it all sorted.
Ben1929 1 Posted September 14, 2016 Author Posted September 14, 2016 OK, got the external player working via the configurator app. Thanks guys, I really appreciate the help.
