Ah ok. Fair enough.

For example this is what it looks like in Metadata Editor:

Although when browsing the same collection in MBC they show up in the following order (Release date metadata in parentheses):

From Russia With Love (1963-10-09)
Thunderball (1965-12-26)
Dr No (1962-10-03)
Goldfinger (1964-09-15)
You Only Live Twice (1967-06-10)
Casino Royale (2006-11-14)
Skyfall (2012-11-08)
Quantum of Solace (2008-10-28)
The World is not Enough (1999-11-20)
Tomorrow Never Dies (1997-12-09)
Octopussy (1983-06-03)
Die Another Day (2002-11-15)
Golden Eye (1995-11-21)
A View to a Kill (1985-06-10)
License to Kill (1989-08-01)
The Spy Who Loved Me (1977-07-17)
Moonraker (1979-06-25)
For Your Eyes Only (1981-06-21)
The Living Daylights (1987-06-27)
Never Say Never Again (1983-12-13)
The Man With The Golden Gun (1974-12-16)
Diamonds Are Forever (1971-12-27)
On Her Majestys Secret Service (1969-12-16)
Live and Let Die (1973-07-03)

Yes exactly. Stored in the <PremiereDate> in the xmlfile for each movie.

Where did you get the release date you indicated there?  From looking at the edit page for the item in the web editor?

Here are some pics of my setup that isn't correctly sorting by date. Hopefully this helps but let me know if there is anything else I can provide or try.

Web interface properly sorted by release date:

Metadata editor showing that that date is populated. I used to use MCM, but got rid of all that metadata and had MBServer populate everything:

MB3 Interface with selection of sorting by year, not sorting correctly. It appears to keep sorting by whatever the previous selection was (name). I've tried exiting after setting to sort by year, tried different themes, and it always looks this way on both HTPC mediabrowser setups I have:

Please let me know if you need any version numbers or log files - I believe I have everything set to either beta or dev.

The sorting logic in MBC is still using the old-style of IComparers against lists.  I think I'm just going to re-write it to use linq and that will make it much easier to control what is going on here.

Will one of you guys with this issue please update to the dev release of MBC (130) then enter one of these folders where the sorting is incorrect and post the MBC log here.  It won't change anything, but it will give me some logging to try and see what is going on. Thx.

I don't know if it's relevant or not, but...  I notice that audiophile42, who's using MB3 metadata, has the Date Added and Release Dates in a different format than all my records use.

His: 04/09/1957 (month/day/year)

Mine: 1957-04-09 (year-month-day)

I use MCM exclusively for my metadata. Mine seem to sort properly by Release Date. If there is none, then Year is used. (Except that all sets are shown first, but that's understandable.)

That's interesting indeed. I have the same date format as you, though. And none of my collections are correctly sorted. Are we using the same version? I'm using 3.0.129.0 2-12.2

Do you have a specific collection that sorts correctly. I'm perfectly willing to setup a collection exactly the same way to see if it works.

^Oops. I see I mis-stated above. My titles sort properly in the web interface only. In MBC if I choose to sort by Date they're sorted by Date Added -- I don't see any way to sort by Release Date in MBC. So I guess I get the same results you do, mitbac.

I just had noticed that audiophile42's dates were formatted differently, wondered how that might impact the sorting functions, or if they're coded to allow for different formats.

Can one of you please update to the version I requested and give me a log?

I've been having this problem for the last couple weeks (including in build 129).  When I installed 130 to get the logs you want, the problem went away.  Do you still want my logs?

Really, 130 is sorting them properly?

Yep. I even reverted to 129 to verify the problem returned and rule out something happening on the server side. The problem did in fact return. Again changing to dev branch and upgrading to 130 fixed the issue.

Okay, thank you very much.  Then I guess I know what the problem was :).

After you get 130 or 131, you should be sure and set your System update level back to Beta or Release to avoid getting unstable versions.

Sort by "Date" sorts by Date Added.

Sort by "Year" sorts by Premier Date/Production Year.

Thank you. It works perfectly then.

I updated to 131 from 129 and it seems to be sorting by date added.

I even changed a couple date added dates and it did change the order in mbc

Sorting by Date (date added) and Year both working correctly here with 131, also. :)
