MarcoB 0 Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 Hello, I just downloaded emby and am having some trouble setting up live tv. I've read through the wiki and still am getting stuck. I've installed both the NextPVR and MediaPortal plugins to try to get them to work, but when i go to the Live TV page i only see the below picture and can't go any further. Next PVR doesnt show up and there is an issue with Media Portal (I have issues with Media Portal 1 on my PC). What am I doing wrong?
Luke 42077 Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 Hi, welcome. In the second screenshot, click on one of those two tiles to configure media portal or next pvr settings. Please note, these plugins depend on software of the same name. The Media Portal plugin requires Media Portal software, and the Next Pvr plugin requires Next Pvr. Those are separate installations that you'll have to perform on the websites for those software applications. Does that help? What kind of tv tuner do you have?
PenkethBoy 2068 Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 Hi Just done the same thing today Assuming you have your tuner and channels already setup in NextPVr software prior to trying in emby Whats not apparent initially is that on NextPVR under settings is a page called "clients" and at the bottom of that is a check box "allow Remote access" - check that and you should be good to go in Emby - also on that page is the pin and web server port - just check they are the same as in the emby plugin - mine were go to the live tv page in emby then channels - wait a few seconds and hopefully you epg should appear
MarcoB 0 Posted September 6, 2016 Author Posted September 6, 2016 Thank you both for responding so quickly. I'm giving up on MediaPortal, I can't get it to function properly on my PC. For NextPVR, everything seems to be set up properly on my PC. I did find that Allow Remote Access setting earlier when I was trying to figure this out, but it didn't seem to do the trick (screencap below). Is there any issue having a username/password populated?
PenkethBoy 2068 Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 No same as mine - have been experimenting and it appears you need NextPVR actually open not just the try app for emby to pick it up - im using the Dev version of the server so that might be different - Luke would have to chip in on that it might be there is another setting elsewhere or we are not waiting long enough need to read up a bit more on NextPVr forums tomorrow if you figure it out - let us know
Luke 42077 Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 If you want simple and you have an HDHomerun network tuner, then you should definitely consider using the built-in options without a plugin.

Yeah i didn't quite do my research before buying my tuner and I went with the Hauppauge usb tuner. Am regretting it after trying to get live tv going these past two days. Seems there is much more flexibility with the hdhomerun. Might just have to return the Hauppauge
jordy 284 Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 Just check to see that you have the nextpvr recording service active. Pretty sure that you don't need NPVR app running but you do need the service. Sent from my HUAWEI MT7-L09 using Tapatalk

jordy 284 Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 Check the icon in the taskbar by the clock - black with white N. R click and restart service to be sure. Sent from my HUAWEI MT7-L09 using Tapatalk
sub3 64 Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 (edited) I'm fairly certain I have this active, but how do I check for sure? If you open http://127.0.0.1:8866 on your web browser (on the machine that has NextPVR installed), you should see it's web app. See that will tell you the web server is running, and the API that EMBY uses will be available. MarcoB 0 Posted September 6, 2016 Author Posted September 6, 2016 It seems to be up and running. I restarted the service and see the guide, still nothing in Emby though. I also found this topic http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread...049#post490049 on the NextPVR forums but that didn't help either.
MarcoB 0 Posted September 6, 2016 Author Posted September 6, 2016 I re-installed MediaPortal1 and was able to get that to function on my PC, but I still receive an unavailable status on the Plugin page of Emby. My host (192.168.1.10) and port (4322) appear to be configured properly for MediaPortal in Emby. Is there anything else that needs to be done to configure MP? Is there something on my PC that is blocking both of these plugins??
pünktchen 1409 Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 (edited) Firewall maybe? Test the second link from MPExtended Configurator -> Troubleshooting on the machine where MPExtended is installed as well as on a remote machine. Also have you checked your authentication settings in Emby MediaPortal Live TV plugin? Authentication is enabled by default in MPExtended - user: admin, password: admin. Also have you checked your authentication settings in Emby MediaPortal Live TV plugin? Authentication is enabled by default in MPExtended - user: admin, password: admin. Some progress! I had authentication disabled in MPExtended, but after putting in admin/admin in Emby, it does let me connect to it now. Now, on to the next issue... When I open the Emby Live TV folder in my PS4's media player, I see a message of 'No Playable Media' Edit - I'm now seeing the MP Plugin go randomly to Unavailable on the LiveTV section of Emby, every time i go into the PlugIn's settings and test the connection there, it is successful. pünktchen 1409 Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 If authentication is disabled in MPExtended you really should disable it in the plugin also! For your random connection aborts i can only guess it's still some security software. Before getting to the Playstation, we should concentrate to get things working in a browser on your Emby machine.
MarcoB 0 Posted September 6, 2016 Author Posted September 6, 2016 (edited) Ok, I believe I have a stable connection here now. I disabled authentication on MPExtended and on the Plug In and haven't had any issues seeing my active tuners on the Live TV section of the Emby Server page. I also set up my recorded TV folder to be added to my Library on the Emby Server. When I go into Live TV or Recorded TV on my Media Center on my PS4, both places it says there is no available media. Also, not sure if this is related or not, but when I went into my Windows Firewall settings to look for the Apps that were allowed, I tried finding for Emby, but I couldn't find it. When attempting to add it to the list manually, it says it was already in the list, which was odd. Edit - I also noticed Emby Server installed to C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Emby, rather than program files. I tried reinstalling to get it under program files, but I couldn't make it happen. Not sure if this is an issue. Edited September 6, 2016 by MarcoB
PenkethBoy 2068 Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 I can't imagine that's true or we would have heard about it by now. Yes i was wrong - but was having issue with the NextPVR software at the time due to it crashing - fixed now with a dll update - so it would crash and stop the interaction with emby - just need the NPVR Service running Hauppauge WinTv Dual HD tuner appears to be working ok now with NextPVR Just need to experiment with options and recordings
pünktchen 1409 Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 (edited) @@MarcoB Do not add your recording folder to Emby's library, nor add it in the general live tv settings page!!! Instead you can define your recording share in the MediaPortal Live TV plugin settings. This is better for direct playback, but you don't have to do this just to get it working. Do not forget to do a "guide refresh" at least one time manually, or you will not see any channels or recordings! Edited September 6, 2016 by pünktchen

It looks like I do in fact have no guide data on MediaPortal (screencap), but I can't figure out how to do a guide refresh. Nothing is sticking out in the TV Server Config tool for MP to do this. Will keep searching..

pünktchen 1409 Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 Because you are from US, the only real solution would be "Schedules Direct" i think.
pünktchen 1409 Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 Although there's a plugin for Schedules Direct, it is recommended to use mc2xml to get the guide data from Schedules Direct and convert it to a format that TVServer can import: http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_MEDIAPORTAL_1/13_Setup_Guides/2_TV_Setup/4_TV_Guide_Setup_(EPG)/XMLTV_mc2xml

I think I'm giving up at this point and will stick with DirecTV for now
