Koleckai Silvestri 1154 Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Is the commercial ($500.00) version of Visual Studio required? Can one use another IDE or the free Visual Studio Express packages? Thinking I might want to eventually try my hand at some plugins and maybe some web client tweaking.
BC101 31 Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 (edited) Free Visual Studio C# Express says it has limited support for Project Templates (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Visual_Studio ) which is part of the steps in the wiki on Building a Server Plugin. Its worth a try to see if it works though. Edited January 14, 2014 by BC101
Luke 42077 Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 you can use express for plugin development, but you cannot use express to build the server. However, the web client has been built so that you can modify it's source code using the installed version, just follow the instructions here: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/MediaBrowser/wiki/Dashboard-Development 1
Koleckai Silvestri 1154 Posted January 14, 2014 Author Posted January 14, 2014 Thanks. Have been reviewing the Wiki on Github for a few days now. Will see what I can "break" when I have a bit of free time.
ebr 16169 Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Yeah, c# express should be fine for plug-in development.
gcw07 347 Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 I have used Visual Studio Express for Desktop. I have been able to build MBT with it so don't see why it wouldn't work for plugins too.
LiquidFX 144 Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 work on a YouTube plugin, I use Miro to download my subscriptions but it doesnt sync up to show that I have watched the video. Good luck on your endeavors

Good luck on your endeavors I actually have one half written. The problem is playback. We have to play back the content via a YouTube sanctioned player and that is tricky on some platforms - although not all - the web client should be able to do it no problem and probably MBT too but it just hasn't gotten that far. MBC is a lost cause for YT playback I'm afraid. Also, we can't download the videos (unless they are your own personal ones or are marked as downloadable).
