Praetorian47 1 Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Thanks! Can I shutdown the server and copy data from one to another or would that cause a problem? I'm thinking that when I update one machine, I can then create a script that shuts the servers down and copies simply files or folders. Also, off topic, is there a way to manually set the watched indicators? I used to be able to do that in MB2 but can't figure it out in MB3 at all.
Luke 42077 Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 i personally wouldn't do that because we haven't tested it. and yes, you can use the web interface and i'm pretty sure mbc allows you to do it.
ebr 16169 Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Toggling watched status in MBC is exactly the same as MB2. Ctl-W, 'clear' on remote or use the context menu (*).
Praetorian47 1 Posted January 14, 2014 Author Posted January 14, 2014 I have a possibly unique situation. I have been running MB on my boat for the past few years. I have 5 TVs, 3 of which are connected to Zotac Zbox machines with SSD drives, and 2 of which are connected to WD TV boxes. My wife hates the WD TV interface, so I only put it in the two guest cabins that my kids use. My movies are stored on a Synology 24 bay NAS. One weekend near the end of last summer we did not have any kids with us so I turned off all the electronics and I was surprised at how much longer my batteries lasted (media center equip is all powered by an battery supplied inverter or Generator when it's running). I then decided that I would shutdown all non-essential equipment and it really helps save power for me. This is simple stuff like turning off the power supply to the big TV and stereo receiver (not just turning them off). After more monitoring, I found that the biggest power hog was the Synology unit, even when the drives are stopped, so I want to shut that off some of the time. What I'd done for MB2 at the end of the season, was to copy whatever I planned to watch that night or weekend to the local Zotac SSD, and I created another folder on the MB2 menu called local. That way I could always see just that stuff. The WD TV's can do something similar with a USB stick that my kids worked out. The problem is with MB3 and a server requirement. I'm guessing I'll need to have a server on each machine so I don't need to leave some powered on at all. If I do that, is there any way to get the servers to synchronize watched status, library updates, etc? I add content via a USB disk that I bring up each week with whatever new I've added. I am also planning on disabling Internet connectivity for these machines. Last year, Windows updates and other updates (iTunes was a big issue here) cost my a fortune on my 3G Internet connection, so this year these machines are disconnected! Any advice would be really greatly appreciated. I know it's probably a unique situation so any effort here won't be very beneficial to anybody but me. I'm just looking for any thoughts people might have to see if there's something I haven't thought of. Thanks all! 1
Luke 42077 Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 There is currently no way to synchronize the data from multiple servers. The trakt plugin may be a sufficient workaround though.
Praetorian47 1 Posted January 14, 2014 Author Posted January 14, 2014 Ok. Thanks. I was using MBT and that didn't work for me. I'll install Classic for that.
