Hi All,

First post here. Having downloaded MB3 a week or so ago and spending much of the interim getting used to it and sorting my media files etc. Things have been going well and I have managed to get answers to any queries from here and teh knowledge base. Overall I'm really happy with things but today though I am stuck.

Running latest MB3 Server on a Window 7 PC at home - all good. Downloaded the Android App from Play Store at the weekend and it worked great whist I was at home. Today, whilst at work I tried demonstarting the App to a colleague only to get a messagae on the Galaxay Tab saying unable to connect to media library. I dialled in to home PC (which is left running) from my work PC and turned off the Firewall but still no luck.

Not sure if this is an App issue, MB3 server issue or just a PC settings issue.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Have you set up a REMOTE connection in the Android app ??

You need to specify your home IP (DDNS) address so that it can connect.

Have you got the ports forwarded in your router?

Have you put in the details for the external connection? (click the globe top left and configure the external connection)

Thanks for the replies.

I have been setting up the remote connection (or not) using the Globe connection in the App, but if we can deal with these basics to make sure I'm not falling at the first hurdle -

Name: I am using my MB3 user name as set up in the servber dashboard

IP Address: XXX.XXX.X.XX (number instered obviously)

The media files are actually on a NAS with the drive mapped on the PC. I have tried using the drive's/NAS IP address and my public IP address, all without success.

All I have is a black screen showing all my various attempts.

You should be putting in your routers IP address and have the necessary ports forwarded to the machine that mediabrowser server is running on.

On your server/computer point your browser to http://www.whatismyip.com/. It will tell you what your public IP is. This is assigned by your provider's DHCP server. If you have a static IP or semi-static IP, then this is all you need. If your IP changes every 24 hours, then you need to get a dynamic IP service like the one linked above. It will install software on your computer so the service can redirect any requests to your machine when the IP address changes.

You'll need to use your IPv4 address which is the in the form of XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX. I don't think the system supports IPv6 yet.

Thanks everyone for the replies.

Turns out the router I have ( D-link DSL-3780) is notoriously difficult to configure to open ports so I am off this morning to by a new router.

Rusty Horse,

Did the new router help?
