FabulousAid 0 Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Hi, hope i'm posting in the right place. I've just moved from Plex and on Plex I can throw all my TV shows into one big "TV Shows" folder and then plex will sort out all the naming and grouping. This is great as I use a RSS feed to download Linux distros as soon as they come out. Plex will still put it in the correct TV show and in the correct series regardless of the file structure. My issue is that this doesn't seem to work on Emby, it seems to think that each folder in the root "TV Shows" folder is its own show. For example if I have "show01e1" and "show01e2" each as its own in the folder "TV Show" directory. Emby thinks that "show01e1" is its own TV series and that "show01e2" is its own TV series. Even though they should be put under "Show", then "Season 1" and then "E1" and "E2" individually. Is there a way to have Emby function the same way Plex did? I'm really loving Emby so far and i'm hoping to sort this niggle out. Many thanks!
ebr 16195 Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 You don't have to have folders for seasons but you do need to group shows under a single folder. Please see our Naming Wiki for more information. Also, the auto organize feature may be what you are looking for in your situation - where you could point Auto Organize to your single dump folder and let it sort them into the proper shows.

Agree with the auto-organize. I use this all the time and it's great. As long as it can identify the Show, Season number, and Episode number for the way the file is named it will move the file, rename it, and create a nice hierarchical structure for all your shows.
Luke 42086 Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 I would like to eventually support all of this, we're just not there yet. In the meantime, you do need a proper series folder for best presentation.
d21mike 2 Posted April 17, 2019 Posted April 17, 2019 Is this still true? I found the following in advanced for the my TV Show Library. "Automatically merge series that are spread across multiple folders" I currently have 1 folder per episode like the OP explained.

The series merge feature merges series that contain the same seriesid. Basically if you have a series on D:\Shows\showname and E:\Shows\showname and in the same library they will get merged.
