theriverlethe 0 Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 Whenever I try to play FLAC or ALAC in a web browser client, the Emby dashboard shows the stream as being transcoded to 192kbps mp3, even if it's on the same computer(?!?). Is there a way to disable this?
Solution Deathsquirrel 745 Posted August 21, 2016 Solution Posted August 21, 2016 You need a client device that supports the format if you want native playback. Not all web browsers support those formats. 1
Luke 42086 Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 Yes he's right. There is a way to dis-allow transcoding for a user, but then playback will just fail since the browser can't handle it natively.
Luke 42086 Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 No browser supports flac. The best thing to do is just pres play and enjoy your music, and trust that Emby is delivering it to you in the best way possible based on what that particular device supports.
theriverlethe 0 Posted August 21, 2016 Author Posted August 21, 2016 I see. Does the iOS app support FLAC?
theriverlethe 0 Posted August 21, 2016 Author Posted August 21, 2016 Nevermind, I can see from the log file that it doesn't. Is there any way to change the default bitrate from 192kbps to 320kbps?
ToddSexington 1 Posted May 21, 2017 Posted May 21, 2017 (edited) I'm curious about this as well. I could probably do more digging in threads first, but: 1. Is there a difference between android and iOS apps in terms of the higher end of what they will support? 2. Is there any way to install software or modify settings in Android or iOS to support higher resolutions? Any suggested links are welcome. Edit: it appears that Android can direct play FLAC, whereas it's transcoded to 192k AAC for iOS, with the same media. There's definitely a difference in audio quality, even just raw out of the devices with no external DAC or any such accoutrements. Reason #9000 why I find iOS frustrating in a multi platform ecosystem. Edited May 21, 2017 by ToddSexington
Luke 42086 Posted May 21, 2017 Posted May 21, 2017 Android has libVlc embedded so it will support just about anything. iOS supports what the device natively provides.
ToddSexington 1 Posted May 21, 2017 Posted May 21, 2017 Thanks for the clarification. Emby runs pretty well on Android. There are a few features that would be nice here and there, but overall it is doing a good job of streaming my FLACs. The iphone as an endpoint is rapidly losing its appeal.
