wallaceff 3 Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 I have the following folder structure: e:\media\movies And I also have a folder \kids under it ie e:\media\movies\kids. In MB2, I could have a launch screen folder called MOVIES that points to the \movies folder and another KIDS that points straight to the \movies\kids folder so the kids can get straight to the kids folder from the main launch screen. In MB3, if I try and create those 2 folders, I get an error message that \movies already exists (or something similar) and so can't do it! Why the change?? Any work around??? (I do NOT want to change folder structure).
ebr 16169 Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Changing your folder structure is the easy fix. I'm pretty sure you can get the same presentation that you had back by doing that.
Luke 42077 Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 i was going to suggest a kids user profile
wallaceff 3 Posted January 12, 2014 Author Posted January 12, 2014 Kids profile just changes things a bit too much for the age of my kids. Changing folder structure means that I have to back out if I ever want to load up any if those movies and watch as a family. Really wondering why things were changed from MB2?? Bug? Deliberate? Can it be changed back easily?
Luke 42077 Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 the profiles are much easier than you you think because you can set them up to autologin to your child's profile. then all you need to do for your own personal usage is just switch users
wallaceff 3 Posted January 13, 2014 Author Posted January 13, 2014 I guess.... I just wanted it the way it was .... My only workaround is to use UNC path for one eg. \\tv\media and \\192.168.0.2\media for the other... Which ends up with double movies on searches.... Not ideal.

If you change it to \media\movies and \media\kidsmovies You can have the kids profile pointed to just the kids movie folder and another profile pointed to the kids movie folder and the general movie folder and just switch profiles. Then as Luke said autologin to kids profile so that only kids movies are playable by default and if you switch to the general profile you have access to all movies Edited January 13, 2014 by Vidman 1
wallaceff 3 Posted January 14, 2014 Author Posted January 14, 2014 I am trying to avoid profiles. I suppose I'm really wondering why us it that it things were changed?
wallaceff 3 Posted January 14, 2014 Author Posted January 14, 2014 Latchmor: I wasn't asking why things changed between MB2 and MB3. And the second post you posted is about entry points in MediaCENTER. I'm asking about the main launch screen in MediaBrowser itself. I want to be able to have several tabs down the bottom they may or may not be subsets of each other. I'm asking why that code was changed to not allow this anymore?

Latchmor 584 Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 (edited) Apologies. MB2 was mentioned several times above. MB2 was Media Center. Didn't notice it was filed under MBS. Edited January 13, 2014 by Latchmor
ebr 16169 Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 A lot of things were changed because MB3 is so much more than MB2 ever was. We provide a ton more features and capabilities and this meant that some internal implementations needed to change. Actually, the entire thing has been re-written from the ground up with the exception of some of the internals of MBC. it is possible that we can remove this restriction at some point but it may come at a cost and we need to weigh whether or not that cost is worth it since there are other (and now better) ways to accomplish the same basic functionality.
wallaceff 3 Posted January 14, 2014 Author Posted January 14, 2014 Well... Thanks for clearing that up. Much appreciated.
