grumpygamer 0 Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 Hello enjoying emby server! Thanks. I was wondering if the feature in the subject exists as what's preventing me to add multiple tv-shows is exactly that: missing thumbnails in theTVDB. I do generate them myself up to now, but I no longer have time... So wondering. Thanks!
Luke 42079 Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 Hi, welcome. if there is no thumbnail on tvdb, the server will generate one from the video file.
grumpygamer 0 Posted August 20, 2016 Author Posted August 20, 2016 Thanks, does it do it when the episode has been watched? If that is the case then ok, otherwise it is not working for me. Are there any options to be enabled? Thanks in advance!
Luke 42079 Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 It does this whether it has been watched or not. It is enabled by default. Can you please show a screenshot of what you see? thanks.
grumpygamer 0 Posted August 20, 2016 Author Posted August 20, 2016 As you might notice the thumbnails are not there, not sure but I think it's applying the fanart instead. Thanks
Luke 42079 Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 well there is something there. what is the problem exactly? it is probably getting them from tvdb. I don't understand the issue.
grumpygamer 0 Posted August 20, 2016 Author Posted August 20, 2016 Well the problem is there are no thumbnails on thetvdb, so I'm not sure why it's replacing it with the fan-art, ideally it would be great if Emby could generate the thumbnails instead directly from the video stream!
Luke 42079 Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 that's what it does. it would only use the series fanart if the thumbnail generation for that video happened to fail for whatever reason.
grumpygamer 0 Posted August 21, 2016 Author Posted August 21, 2016 ah so I'm guessing it's failing then. Can I see that in the logs?
Luke 42079 Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 Yes try refreshing Arun episode from the detail screen to force it to try again
grumpygamer 0 Posted August 21, 2016 Author Posted August 21, 2016 That did not work, no thumbnail was generated.
Luke 42079 Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 Please try again, then attach the emby server log: http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/739-how-to-report-a-problem/ Thanks.
grumpygamer 0 Posted August 22, 2016 Author Posted August 22, 2016 (edited) Done, thanks. In attachment I think ffmpeg is failing but really unsure of why that is. Thanks ever so much! I have cleared the logs then performed the following: 1. Access emby 2. Click on documentaries 3. Click on the documentary 4. Click on the season 5. Click on the episode 6. Click on Refresh 7. Select replace all images 8. Click ok 9. Wait server-63607420800.txt Edited August 22, 2016 by grumpygamer
Luke 42079 Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Yes this failed, sorry. Sometimes this will happen. I would just use the web app to specify an image that you would like.
bfir3 117 Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Yes this failed, sorry. Sometimes this will happen. I would just use the web app to specify an image that you would like. So it just fails sometimes, and there's no fix? The only solution is manual intervention by the user?
Luke 42079 Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 It is generally pretty rare, as in my test library with thousands of videos only has a few that it will fail to extract for.
ebr 16184 Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 So it just fails sometimes, and there's no fix? The only solution is manual intervention by the user? The failure was within ffmpeg and, yes, with the almost infinite combination of different variables involved in scanning media, there are situations where it won't work. Could be a bug in ffmpeg or, simply, something they don't support with that particular file. I notice it is an avi which may be related (or not) .
Luke 42079 Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 We actually try the extraction twice with two different combinations of parameters so the extraction is pretty good, but it is not guaranteed to work with every single file.
grumpygamer 0 Posted August 23, 2016 Author Posted August 23, 2016 (edited) Could it be a permission issue? I'm moving files with Sickbeard so that might cause the problem? Edited August 23, 2016 by grumpygamer
grumpygamer 0 Posted August 23, 2016 Author Posted August 23, 2016 All right I don't mean to insist, but it fails with every file format... I have mp4, avi, mkv and wmv that's why the permission issue came to mind
Luke 42079 Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Can you provide a sample file for testing? as far as permissions, in theory it's possible but if you can play the file then probably not. thanks.
grumpygamer 0 Posted August 23, 2016 Author Posted August 23, 2016 (edited) I've sent you a Private message. Thanks! Just thinking it might have reading access, but not write access? So it might be able to read the file but not write the thumbnail... Just guessing here! Erm... is everything ok? Edited August 23, 2016 by grumpygamer
Luke 42079 Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 ffmpeg cannot seek inside this file. I am not sure why. Image extraction fails because it can't seek to the 10 second mark to extract it. chapter image extraction fails for the same reason. playback in chrome with seeking fails for the same reason.
grumpygamer 0 Posted August 24, 2016 Author Posted August 24, 2016 Ok, I've tried with another MKV file and it works! One thing: if it generates a thumbnail that is unusable and i refresh, will randomize the point where it fetches it? Seems not from here... Does it write the thumbnails directly in the folder? If not where are they stored? thanks!
