manny 14 Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 Looking for a little help please. I've just tried ripping DVDs with MakeMKV for the first time. When playing back the picture needs horizontal and vertical stretching otherwise its just a smallish square in the middle of the screen. There's not a lot of options within MakeMKV so not sure what I'm doing wrong here. My Blu-ray and HD-DVD rips are perfect. Any thoughts? Thanks
jasonmcroy 316 Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 I have seen this on some of my DVDs as well. I also use Makemkv to rip everything. You have to check what specs your DVD has. I had one that said something like "widescreen" version. It would give me that small square look on playback. Unfortunately I don't think there is anything you can do about it to be honest. I am currently in a process of upgrading my DVD collection to Bluray for certain movies anyway. 1
manny 14 Posted August 7, 2016 Author Posted August 7, 2016 (edited) Ok thanks. Changing the horizontal and vertical settings is no biggie, would be nice if I didn't have to. The main thing is the Blu-rays are spot on :-) Sounds like old non-anamorphic DVDs...? I'll go with yes, first rip was first release Matrix so we're talking 1999ish!!! Guest asrequested Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 If you're watching in ET, EVR has had issues with this. Try using MadVR.
