Looking for a little help please.

I've just tried ripping DVDs with MakeMKV for the first time.

When playing back the picture needs horizontal and vertical stretching otherwise its just a smallish square in the middle of the screen.

There's not a lot of options within MakeMKV so not sure what I'm doing wrong here. My Blu-ray and HD-DVD rips are perfect.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Sounds like old non-anamorphic DVDs...?

I have seen this on some of my DVDs as well. I also use Makemkv to rip everything. You have to check what specs your DVD has. I had one that said something like "widescreen" version. It would give me that small square look on playback. Unfortunately I don't think there is anything you can do about it to be honest.

I am currently in a process of upgrading my DVD collection to Bluray for certain movies anyway.

Ok thanks.

Changing the horizontal and vertical settings is no biggie, would be nice if I didn't have to.

The main thing is the Blu-rays are spot on :-)

I'll go with yes, first rip was first release Matrix so we're talking 1999ish!!!

If you're watching in ET, EVR has had issues with this. Try using MadVR.

Ok, it sounds like there is 'padding' at the top and bottom of the picture. You could try running it through Handbrake, sometimes you can remove the 'padding'.

Cheers, Doofus. Will give Handbrake a go.
