AFFASocial 6 Posted August 5, 2016 Author Posted August 5, 2016 I guee to bet if I re-install emby it will have the same issues WHY
AFFASocial 6 Posted August 5, 2016 Author Posted August 5, 2016 I see all the pics in .actors folder for the media but none are showing up in the system unless i do a refresh for each movies any suggestions ????
bozrdnag 75 Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 A lot of mine are missing too, but not all. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
bozrdnag 75 Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 Any word on what is wrong with this? I even did a fresh Emby Server install and the vast majority of movie actors still show no images. What does it take to get them to show?
Happy2Play 9780 Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 I see all the pics in .actors folder for the media but none are showing up in the system unless i do a refresh for each movies any suggestions ???? Emby doesn't use the .actor folder stored with media. Emby stores all actors in /Metadata/People. Any word on what is wrong with this? I even did a fresh Emby Server install and the vast majority of movie actors still show no images. What does it take to get them to show? You say you did a fresh install did you save your People folder? If not Emby should be downloading new images on a on demand basis. So when you option the media in the web client does it get the actor images?
bozrdnag 75 Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 (edited) You say you did a fresh install did you save your People folder? If not Emby should be downloading new images on a on demand basis. So when you option the media in the web client does it get the actor images? I did a fresh install from scratch. I didn't save or copy over any settings/files/folders. I just let it scan in all my existing media files which already had nfo files and artwork. I'm not sure what you mean by "option the media in the web client" unless that's auto correct for "open the media in the web client". If so, when I open the media in the web client I see very few actor images. In fact the few I do see I'm pretty sure are all actors from TV series I have so I think their images may have come from the series being scraped, not the movie. If I refresh the movie then the rest of the actor images show up. But I don't have the time or the patience to refresh over 1400 movies individually. And why the need to refresh when they were all freshly scanned in to the library? What is refreshing doing that a library scan doesn't do? Could it have anything to do that my nfo files were created by a application other than Emby? Edited August 9, 2016 by bozrdnag

I believe this is back to old data vs new and if you have "Download all images in advance" selected (dashboard-metadata). If you add a new movie are the actors downloaded/displayed? Or is all your metadata coming from another source then Emby is just reading? The Refresh process is basically nuking previous and re-downloading all the information for that item.

The Refresh process is basically nuking previous and re-downloading all the information for that item. Download all images in advance is not enabled. I've been a Kodi user for many years (still am) and have used Ember Media Manager to create all my nfo files, download artwork and stuff. So all my movies have nfo files with actor information in them but no references to their images. Plus I have the .actors folder but I see you said Emby ignores that. If I add a new movie there are usually no actor images unless it's one I already have from a TV series. I've attached one of my nfo files if that helps. Luke 42078 Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 We have not yet added support for the .actors folder although it is a possibility for the future. Currently the people images are retrieved during media metadata downloading but since you're providing local metadata that's why it isn't happening. So it's a known issue, something we have to think about how to handle. In the meantime, refreshing affected movies or series will fill them in.
bozrdnag 75 Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 That is very disappointing! As I said, it's too much work to refresh over 1400 movies one at a time. Worse is the fact that doing so will replace the custom metadata that I specifically created. Why doesn't Emby know that there are no actor images and just get what ever is missing? So because I use an nfo file I can't get any actor images without refreshing? 1
Luke 42078 Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 For now until it is reviewed you can just refresh from a top level folder using the metadata manager.
rickster53 27 Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 I am in the same position as bozrdnag having just done a complete uninstall and reinstall of Emby because I had numerous duplicate music artists and couldn't find a way to clean them up. Neither my actors or music artists are being downloaded even after trying your suggestion to do a Refresh at the top level folder. Only my album artists were reestablished because they had existing folder.jpg image files in their respective folders and those also repopulated as music artists as well because I also have them identified as such via mp3tag. But if have no actor or cast images that I can find and my music artists are limited to those that are also album artists. When I did the top level refresh I chose to use the missing metadata option and did not select the option to overwrite existing images because I did not want new album artist images downloaded to replace my existing folder.jpg files. I have also tried opening individual movie folder in Emby which used to force the download of actors, but doesn't now, and I have also tried to use Edit images and search but it returns nothing. Perhaps I am forgetting to reset something in my config although I do have settings to save metadata in my local folders and all images are checked for both music and movies. I have run the Refresh People task... Have I selected the correct options to have my missing artist and actor images downloaded? Did I run the refresh correctly? I have seen an error in the log file (attached) when I open up a movie folder. I assume this is emby trying to download the missing actor images? I thought this might be a port or firewall issue but ports 8096 and 8920 are open and windows firewall indicates Emby Server and MediaBrowser Updater Console are both "allowed" internet and public access. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. server-63606598058.txt
rickster53 27 Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 Can anyone please explain the error in the log I provided and whether or not this is the cause of my actor/music artist image download issue? thanks
Luke 42078 Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 have you customized the server's metadata path?
Luke 42078 Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 Find the server's program data folder. From there, there will be a /metadata/People subfolder. Is that where your people are? if not, then move them into there.
AFFASocial 6 Posted August 14, 2016 Author Posted August 14, 2016 I solved it by deleting all the .actor forlder in my media folders and doing a fresh install. now 99% is all their, question why use all those images unless you with to see the casst and crew, also again ffmpeg.exe on certain movies is consuming 100% of cpu on all 4 cores even with the throttling checked or unchecked,,, mediabrowser 3 was far better than it seems to be today, who wants to keep re-installing to get better effects only for it to do the same thing. im just about ready to move on myself ... No dis respect to EMBY you guys work had and I support that it just seems when we change one thing for the better other things go wrong, kinda reminds me of Apache A patchy Server neway I hope the above helps with the actor - images as it works.

As of the time of this writing, we don't support the .actors folder. The only thing the re installation did was refresh your titles, so you could have achieved the same thing without having to reinstall.
AFFASocial 6 Posted August 14, 2016 Author Posted August 14, 2016 some further testing shows .mkv is the transcoding hog
rickster53 27 Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 Find the server's program data folder. From there, there will be a /metadata/People subfolder. Is that where your people are? if not, then move them into there. Yes, my People folder is located in Emby-Server/metadata/People. There are folders for each letter of the alphabet plus folders for actors with some special characters as the first letter of the name---as expected and as I had prior to the clean reinstall. Each of these folders has a person.xml file in it, and there are approximately 16,000 folders/files in the People folder.
Luke 42078 Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 And are there images in there? have you run a people refresh?
Luke 42078 Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 Just fyi for the next release and in the current beta, behavior is improved to help with this. When scanning in new titles, even if you have existing metadata we'll still go out to the internet to try and pull in people information. Also, when opening individual person detail screens, there will be some on demand refreshing to attempt to fill in metadata for people that don't have any.
rickster53 27 Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 And are there images in there? have you run a people refresh? There are no images to be found and yes, I have done a People refresh. I will install the latest beta, refresh people and report back...
