dbanas001 1 Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 Good morning! I'm loving Emby, but I have run into a problem with a particular file. I just converted Big Hero 6 using the High Profile setting on Handbrake (as I do with every conversion). For some reason, this file likes to stop after only a few seconds. I tried playing the same file on the web version of Emby and had no problems. I also haven't had any problems with other files before this. I've attached the log file for your viewing. I may try to convert again, but I also wanted to see if the type of conversion could be the problem. Thanks in advance! Dave Log.txt
ebr 16169 Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 Is a transcode or remux log produced? What is the media info from the web client?
Luke 42077 Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 Also you're running a pre-release version of Emby Server, therefore it's paramount that you stay on the latest version. it is very difficult for us to provide support when this is based your use of experimental versions.
dbanas001 1 Posted August 2, 2016 Author Posted August 2, 2016 I meant to install the stable release shortly after installing the beta because I thought better of it. Apparently I forgot. I'll install the stable release and see if that does the trick. Thanks for the quick responses. You guys are great with that.
dbanas001 1 Posted August 3, 2016 Author Posted August 3, 2016 I've tried a couple of things to get it working and I'm still having the same problem. I installed the stable version of the server and deleted and reinstalled the app on my Fire TV. Neither worked. The interesting thing is that the movie plays fine on my Fire Stick in another room. This is the only movie I've come across that has done this, but I have not watched every movie file I have since switching over from Plex. I'm hoping to solve the problem in case this problem will continue with other movie files. Thanks! Dave
Luke 42077 Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 Ok, please provide the emby server log from the playback attempt along with the transcoding/remux/directsteam log. Thanks!
chali 11 Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 Hi this problem i have seen a lott of, 1 is it a dvd you converted? then stay under a crf off 19 ( don't go to 18) and medium in h265 (seams to work for me, (im using h265 mkv) is it a blu-ray stay above 22 for h265 (i use 23 and cant se the differens att medium) as its now i have the biggest problems with files in h264 but im guessing it because when i did those i made them using to low "high" value in crf if i use "better" settings in handbrake then i have to force transcode for the movies to funktion hope this helps /Regards
dbanas001 1 Posted August 3, 2016 Author Posted August 3, 2016 I converted a blu ray using the default high profile setting on handbrake and have never had a problem, but I will try our suggestions in the future. I've attached the log files you've asked for. Thanks! Log.txt Log-2.txt
dbanas001 1 Posted August 3, 2016 Author Posted August 3, 2016 I'm coming across another issue that should be in the log file. Since installing the stable build of the server, my library scans are failing due to illegal characters, but I can't seem to find the issue after looking through the file. I was not having this issue before yesterday and I haven't added or change any files.
chali 11 Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 (edited) Just a note, may i ask what you are trying to play on? is it a android tv box? the most time i have problems playing movies is on a remixmini (i use it as a media computer to my tv) i normally dont have problems when im playing on phones or on tablet using higher settings in handbrake. ( on some older iPhones its been the same problem) if it´s a problem for me on tablets its not stopping it´s just lagging since the hardware couldn't handle the stream and i needed to ask emby to transcode it instead (lower the bitrate) here are some tips when you ripping movies in handbrake, Sorry if this is not ok to write here, (let me now and i remove it) (i ben ripping using handbrake for about 10-12 years now and ript close to 10,000 movies ;-) after many many tests for many years using different settings i find this to be the best for size/quality and funktion use h265 in a mkv container and put quality to 22-23 in crf for blu rays and 19 for dvd, use medium settings (best time vs quality in medium) (if you want to use h254 for some reson send a pm and i can send you som rely good profiles for optimal quality, but i rely recommend sticking to h265 since its the future) sound: i use 4 different streams on cartoons, 2 english and 2 swe ( 2 dolby pro logic II (sterio) and two surround (5.1/7.1 (or what native languish you speak) the first track should be handbrake original (aac 160 bit for comparability if you bringing the movie withe you and playing on a tablet) the second track put dts or Ac3 passthrough depending what the disk have (dts is recommended for good sound) do the same for the second languish (i put the English sound in the bottom so Swedish is the first 2 tracks (one aac and one dts) when im home i use dts and on the tablet i use aac, the 2 english tracks is for me or when the kids grow upp and want to watch the movie in english. for subtitle i add all the subs the are (it doesn't take any space) and don't burn them in! use the default option instead on the sub you like to have as standard, (and i put that sub on topp) so if you play the movie using English ,the sub will be active, but using Swedish sound then the sub is not active. the only downside off this is that mkv is not as widely supported as mp4 (this is normally not a problem anymore but still some thing to think off) the + side withe mkv is that it have a little better quality and you can ad multiple soft subs to it (mp4 in blu-ray burn in the sub so it can only be one and its always on) the 4 sound streams take upp a bit off space compered to one aac in 160kbps but since you now using h265 the total size while be smaller then h264. + if you like really good sound when your home on your big surround system you wont regret it ;-) ( maybe you don't need to have dts on both languages but i like to have options ;-) if size and mobility is more importen shift to mp4 and klick the web optimized option and only use aac for the sound if the hardware is rely old then shift from h265 to h264. (the movie will be bigger) Ps: let me now if you like to now the best way to always pick the correct title to rip (movies normally use fake titles (multiple mpls) to make it harder to rip them, and programs like dvdfab etc suck on finding the correct one. /Regards Edited August 3, 2016 by chali

Program data path: C:\Users\david\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server Application Path: C:\Users\david\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\system\MediaBrowser.ServerApplication.exe '', hexadecimal value 0x03, is an invalid character. dbanas001 1 Posted August 3, 2016 Author Posted August 3, 2016 I'll look into your suggestions of transcoding. I'm using Fire Tvs for my devices, but only one seems to be having the problem. Everything I have is transcoded into MP4s be jade my original device was an Apple TV and I occasionally put these on my iPhone/iPad. Up until this movie I've never had issues. In your response to the second posting, I did see the reference you listing, but I have no idea what that is or how it got there considering I haven't changed any files on my drive since moving over this last movie. Again, this started after installing the stable version of the server. Thanks for the suggestions.
Luke 42077 Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 try lowering the in-app bitrate setting to 1mbps to force this file to transcode. see if it plays then.
dbanas001 1 Posted August 6, 2016 Author Posted August 6, 2016 That did it! Not sure why it works fine on my other Fire TVs. Is there a way I can make it force transcode this movie only? Thanks! Now I need to figure out what is stopping my library scan.
ebr 16169 Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 You never gave us the media info from the web client details page to confirm but my suspicion is that it is a bitrate that the device cannot handle - maybe just in the part where it is failing.
dbanas001 1 Posted August 6, 2016 Author Posted August 6, 2016 Sorry for not posting the media info. I must have missed that part. Unfortunately my server is out of commission. i removed the files to find where the error is occurring for the scan, but it occurs no matter what file I place in the folder. Because of this, the scan isn't finding any movies since it fails right away. I posted this problem in the Windows server forum.
