jeffshead 4 Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 (edited) I just added some movies to my network share. Each movie is in it's own folder. Emby added them automatically and scraped them properly but I noticed they do not show up under Recently Added. I used the Metadata Manager to view each movie's info and saw the Release Date and Date Added match! I checked Emby->Settings->Library->Advanced->Date added behavior for new content and it is set to: Use file creation date Why is this? Why wasn't the creation date of the folder or movie file used? jeffshead 4 Posted August 1, 2016 Author Posted August 1, 2016 (edited) Are you using the TimeLord plugin? No. The only plug-in I have installed is the Emby for Kodi Sync Queue Edited August 1, 2016 by jeffshead
jeffshead 4 Posted August 1, 2016 Author Posted August 1, 2016 Switching Emby->Settings->Library->Advanced->Date added behavior for new content to: Use date scanned into library works. How can we troubleshoot?
Luke 42081 Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 Hi, welcome. Now that you've switched it, and it's working, what's left to troubleshoot?

Ha, ha Maybe you're right; leave well enough alone. My nature is to fix, not work around. Bothers me when something is not functioning properly and I don't know the cause.

Luke 42081 Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 I think it is working properly, but users often confuse date created timestamp for date modified. So to clear that up, it is the date created timestamp. Second, if you have an added value within an nfo file then that will always override.
jeffshead 4 Posted August 2, 2016 Author Posted August 2, 2016 (edited) ...but that is an option to directly control what you're asking about...so...it's working properly isn't it? No. It's not working properly if I want the Emby created NFO file to contain the "created date" of the folder rather than when Emby finds it. Changing settings is a work around to achieve a similar result. It's not a solution to the original problem and I don't understand how this is being viewed as "fixed". Emby is creating the NFO file and supplying the "date added". Below is an excerpt of an NFO file. Emby uses either file/folder date created or date added based on configuration, right?
jeffshead 4 Posted August 2, 2016 Author Posted August 2, 2016 Well where is the 1992 coming from? Emby uses either file/folder date created or date added based on configuration, right? That's my question. The creation date of both the folder and the movie file it contains are Friday, July 29, 2016, 7:xx:xx PM.

bfir3 117 Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 And there is no movie.xml in the directory that Emby could be pulling from when creating the NFO, correct? I can't think of other reasons that Emby might overwrite the Date Added with something other than the Date Created property of the file, except for if you were running the TimeLord plugin (though I haven't actually used this so I might be wrong). Seems like a very strange issue otherwise.

We can continue this discussion but I do not want to be frivolous with anyone's time. I have posted about other issues that are more important to me Edited August 2, 2016 by jeffshead
Luke 42081 Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 Yea i can't reproduce this sorry, and i haven't seen this reported by anyone else either. Something else must be modifying it after Emby scans it. We have seen many cases of other programs modifying nfo's after we save it, unfortunately everybody's natural assumption is that it's always an Emby problem.
