This has happened to me a few times over the last couple of weeks.  I try to tune a channel from the Shield TV and get a playback error.  If I reboot the Shield TV, it plays.  Also, I can go to the same channel using HDHomeRun View and it plays fine.  I can also successfully tune to the channel from the web gui and iPhone app.  I have a mix of 1 HDHR Prime and 2 HDHR Connects.  This particular issue was with an OTA channel (6.1), but has happend with cable channels as well.  Logs attached (server version 3.0.600.0)...TIA

Have you tried different settings surrounding how Live TV is played in the app like turning on/off direct streaming and using VLC for them?

No.  I have 4 Shield TVs in the house.  On all of them, direct streaming is enabled.  Usually, Live TV is working and it direct plays.  This has only happened a few times so I didn't start tinkering with anything.  Also, on 3 of the Shield TVs, I have all the sound options (DTS, etc.) disabled because they are plugged directly into the TV.  On the other, all sound options are enabled because it is plugged into an AVR.  This particular incident occurred on the Shield TV with the AVR.

Turn on the debug setting in the app and the next time it happens, immediately go back to the home screen and send a log. Then come here and tell me what you played, what happened and the Emby user that was logged in. Thx.

Here is what I just did:

 

I tried to play channel 6.1 again and it came back with the Video Playback Error.

I double checked the settings in the AndroidTV app and the Direct Streaming for Live TV option was unchecked.  I checked it and tried to play it again.  This time, I got a grey screen and audio noise.

I rebooted the Shield TV, double checked the settings in the app, and tried to play channel 6.1 again.  This time, it is playing, but the dashboard says it is transcoding.

Well your HDHR tuner is throwing some 503 errors. I'm not sure what that's about, but usually that's to signal that it's unavailable.

Sorry. Bad example. That channel does have a low signal. I'll post logs again when it happens on a different channel.
