ThermoDust 12 Posted July 16, 2016 Posted July 16, 2016 I am planning on upgrading my media server to once again try and get as much horse power with the least energy into it. Currently my system does well and takes up about 65 watts of power to run. Keeping with that idea I'd like to increase its capability to transcode. Which hardware method is best, intel, h264, nvidia?
Ponyo 22 Posted July 16, 2016 Posted July 16, 2016 Depends. I think nvidia can only do a limit number of streams though maybe that changed. In theory nvidia is the fastest as their gpus simply are much faster than Intel's offerings but this performance comes at a price. You'll need to buy an "expensive" gpu and that gpu will be sitting there using power even if it's not used. Intel would be the more economical solution as the gpu is integrated into the cpu. Power usage can be as low as 30 watt under load on a Intel nuc. Sent from my HTL23 using Tapatalk
