Bert 49 Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 I upgraded some computers to Windows 10 and moved things around. So I started from scratch on my Emby setup. My main computer has 10 drives and serves other relatively low powered (cheap) computers. I never saw prior to recently that it showed you if a file was direct playing before but now I see that the computer that is playing the movie is getting it transcoded. It is a Windows 7 machine so I would think it should definitely direct play an MP4 file. On the library setup, I set the library paths as network paths as I thought this was "best practice". Is this no longer the case? I basically open up all these drives to share Everyone All Options because I don't really care who can get the files all the drives hold are media. I am sure I am missing something obvious?
ebr 16187 Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 You didn't say what app you were using. There is no simple answer but start here: Why is my media transcoding?
Bert 49 Posted July 13, 2016 Author Posted July 13, 2016 Sorry the WMC application... I'll look there at the link
Solution ebr 16187 Posted July 13, 2016 Solution Posted July 13, 2016 If you are getting transcoding from Emby for Media Center then you almost certainly have a network permissions or access issue from that machine. 1
Bert 49 Posted July 14, 2016 Author Posted July 14, 2016 Correct, had to add it to home group. Thanks for the help
