vfast 5 Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Hi I've been using server for many years now. I recently have had my first issue in that the service is consuming 100% CPU with no devices active. I'm not sure what is causing this. I restart the service (most normally have to killtask the server task) and it seems fine, for a while. But then normally hits 100% cpu in about an hour. Leading up to the issue I had one path becoming unavailable. As in I could not browse it via Theater or web. I would get the spinning circle of death. I resolved it by removing the path and re-adding. But many days have passed and I recently upgraded to the version above. I've included the server logs from today and after a restart of the service to compare. server-63603853698.txt server-63603815994.txt
chef 3810 Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 (edited) I can try to help. I read through the first log, and all your DLNA devices seem to load okay (Yamaha device, and possibly squeeze box). I'm not good at reading the networking stuff at the end of emby logs, so I can't tell about that, but I am wondering if you are experiencing high CPU loads because there is a system scan running (ffmpeg and ffprobe) locating and loading metadata into the emby engine. I am wondering if you are saving metadata locally? If not the engine maybe trying to download and aquire all the images for your Libraray. You have 3 backdrops selected for each item, which would take a while to get from the Internet. Edited July 11, 2016 by chef
Luke 42077 Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Try removing the cover art plugin and see if that helps with cpu usage.
vfast 5 Posted July 12, 2016 Author Posted July 12, 2016 Thanks guys - I updated again to latest 3.1.62 (which the changelog url 404's btw). I haven't seen the problem resurface. So it could be the cover art downloading art for the replaced path I re-added? Not sure. But I will keep both in mind if it occurs again.
vfast 5 Posted July 13, 2016 Author Posted July 13, 2016 I spoke to soon. Came home to find it pegging 100% again. Have now removed Coverart plug in. Updated to new version 3.1.63
chef 3810 Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 I spoke to soon. Came home to find it pegging 100% again. Have now removed Coverart plug in. Updated to new version 3.1.63 Would you mind letting us know how you made out here, because just yesterday, I experienced Something similar. I just can't seem to find what is utilizing the CPU. In Windows task manager emby is using quite a bit of RAM (which is okay), but the server executable isn't showing much CPU usage. But the CPU is being driven by something. This leads me to believe that there is a task running in the background which is using it. Ffprobe maybe?
Happy2Play 9780 Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 Does anyone have Enable Backdrops set to "Yes" in User preferences-Display settings?
softworkz 5066 Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 Here's a procedure that might help finding the actual cause: Download Sysinternals Process Explorer from this site:https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals Run procexp.exe as Administrator (important) Find the Emby process in the list (MediaBrowser.ServerApplication.exe)(while it is taking 100% CPU!) Right-Click and choose "Properties" Switch to the "Threads" tab and sort by CPU column descending Select the first thread in the list with the highest CPU Klick on the "Stack" button to view the stack Copy the list with the "Copy All" button and save it somewhere Now, repeat the procedure from "Select the first thread" about 10 to 20 times and see if the stack always looks the same or if there are different variants Post the different stack lists that you found here in the forum PS: This is not a precise method and it doesn't give the right results in all situations, but in many cases it can be helpful to get the right idea..
