vj950 5 Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Hi, Background: I am running the very last version of Emby that supported ISO mount, which works for most of my needs. However, the latest versions of the Emby server offers a lot more features. My question: Is there a way I can run both the servers on the same PC? Thinking about a portable install of the latest version on a different port which will also result in different path for cache ect. Will this work alongside my Outdated installed server? Thanks

vj950 5 Posted July 11, 2016 Author Posted July 11, 2016 (edited) Just took a risk of messing everything up, but instead it worked! The trick that I figured out was to run the installed (older 32 bit version) first and then run the portable version. Edited July 11, 2016 by vj950
Happy2Play 9783 Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Are you saying you got both version running at the same time on the same machine? or a portable and an old version running one at a time?

Yes, both are running and working simultaneously! But only if I first exit both, then restart the old "installed" version first and then run the portable version. Once up and running, no special attention needed.
Happy2Play 9783 Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Interesting, I get "Shutting down because another instance of Media Browser Server is already running." if I try to start a second server.
vj950 5 Posted July 11, 2016 Author Posted July 11, 2016 Hmm, I am on Window 8.1 64 bit. Have not enabled the Service
ebr 16194 Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 I would not do that. The system isn't designed to handle it and there is no telling what kind of problems may arise. Use a VM instead and it should be fine.
