Hi All,

I'm flabbergasted on all the changes. When using MB I had a solid grasp of most features, now I'm lost. Some help would be greatly appreciated.
Our current setup includes

  • Windows 7 PC (connected to TV via HDMI)
  • Meida Center Master (used to rename & move files, and collect artwork)
  • Synology NAS (30,000 files - artwork, trailers, video files)
  • Old MB Folder Structure
(TV Show, Seasons, episode metadata with XML file, artwork)
(Movie, Trailer folder, movie.xml, artwork backdrops and folder.jpg)

QUESTIONS:

  1. Playlists - Can we create playlists for movies & TV shows? This is a big deal for us. In Power DVD we create a new playlist and name it. You can drag and drop any file onto a playlist or right click a video file and "Add To" any playlist. We set up 2-3 weeks of viewing by using playlists.
  2. Folder Structure - Can we continue to use the folder structure and artwork we already have? We are not big on opening up or PC or NAS to internet access for media. Our backdrops and posters are excellent, hand picked/edited. All trailers are 1080p.
  3. Emby Components - We currently use the PC to access content on NAS, and connect PC via HDMI to the TV. I have no idea what Emby components we would use. I don't know the purpose of the Synology plugin or if that 2012 NAS has enough power.

1) you can right click media to create/add to a playlist or hold left click to activate multi-select menu. (web client)

2) I use MCM and that same folder/Library structure is optimal for Emby.

3) you need a system to run Emby Server on, Not sure if there is version of Emby Server for that Synology model.

The Wiki many answer some of your questions also.

Thanks MOD.

Thanks for the Wiki link. I'm rolling up on 60 yrsold and trying to get my head around all this. What exactly are the NAS Plugins, like for QNAP, used for? Even with that plugin I suspect you still need a separate PC to push the signal to a TV as the CPU and memory in a NAS are not very powerful. Ours has an Intel Atom Dual Core 2.13GHz with 3GB ram.

The nas plugins are versions of emby server for that specific nas, if your nas is not very powerful and you require transcoding you may need to run the server software on another device and point the library to your nas

If your NAS isn't powerful enough to run the server on, then you need Emby Server installed on a pc.  Most likely the one that you also have connected to the TV.  Unless there is another pc on the network that is faster and is on any time you would want to watch something.  Once that is setup, you would need a client.  Emby theater is still in development, but works great in a lot of scenarios.  If you are familiar with Kodi, the Emby for Kodi add-on also works like a charm.
