How to make Emby server to work with Comodo internet security ?

Hello I wonder if there is any custom ruleset to make emby work with comodo internet security firewall.

I am using windows 10 and the emby server is online and working on the web browser on the same computer,

Both local and remote server address does not work on my android device in chrome or the app. "Can't connect to server it say"

To set up the comodo firewall is kind of advanced, I have tried to add it as an "allowed" application without success.

so I think a custom ruleset needs to be done.

I use many more PC programs to sync with my android apps such as viber, whatsapp pushbullet I have no problem or hassle with these,

I wish it was as easy to get the emby server to work.

Hi, you're seeing this inside your home network, or when away from home?

I only see my server in the web browser from the same PC I am hosting the server from, both local and remote address work in my PC, but on remote devices such as my smartphone the server is not reachable

Also, emby should had consider all these firewall problems when designing the app, they should have done it in away so it uses the part of the systems that is usually whitelisted in the system and not require firewall rules.

Comodo firewall is most automatic it is using a cloud based white list so I never need to change any rules sometimes popup windows comes up and ask if I should give access to this software, but this never happend with emby...

I use other apps which I sync with my mobile such as pushbullet, whatsapp and viber I have never had any problems with those, maybe you should try to make it work more easy without firewall problems  I have read many posts here on the forum of people who have same problem who cant connet to their own server even if its online.

Maybe just maybe YOU should learn how to properly use your firewall.  Relying on "automatic" stuff is about as secure as leaving all the doors to your house unlocked.  You can't come here and complain about how something works based on the fact you obviously have no understanding of how your firewall works or how to set it up properly.  There are literally 100's of different firewalls out there in the world, software based, hardware based etc, and its the responsibility of the person using said firewall to understand how to use it in the first place.

We do but there are a lot of security products we have to interface with, both hardware and software, and it's very difficult to keep up with every single one of them. This is just a matter of opening ports and is resolved easily. If you take a look at our Connections wiki, the bottom of the page has info on setting up port forwarding:

https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Connectivity

Again, we do try to do this automatically, and while it doesn't work with every single router or security software, it does work with quite a few.

I find it funny how you think I am a complete idiot,  I have studied computer science,  but that does not make it easy to setup firewall rules in comodo, I know other firewall software is easier, but comodo is done in a way that it is hard to set up a rule for a reason, mainly that if you are not totally sure what you are doing the rule will not work, install comodo firewall and get back to me and you tell me how easy it is to set up a firewall rule, it is not as simple as adding "trusted application"   Comodo internet security, is anti virus, firewall, and also defense plus and sandboxing so there is many layers it need to go thru.

In fact since you say it is so easy and tham I am so stupid I give you 24 hours to give me the firewall rule for comodo internet security (free version), it is a piece of cake right ? prove it to me.

Yes but not everyone use windows firewall, but there is also a lot of idiots out there and for them it is simple if the program do not work they will try another program instead.

I am a computer geek, with a lot of knowledge but firewall problem is always hard to solve I think does not make things easier when you use VPN all the time.

all I am saying all my other programs I have been using have no problems, maybe it is because they use more common ports.. that is already open I do not know

Good day,

Sorry to say this, but no matters how good this firewall or that (software or hardware), no point to use it if it complex for me or you to use it and set it up the way I want it.

Fully understand the issue tho, I been there with many software or OS, do that firewall have support like forum or FAQ to look to it for these matters? Also good to run some free utilities that watch app/ports while using emby server.

Also please do not get upset from some replies here, it meant no harm, they only wanted to help, nothing more.

My best

Tomorrow I will try for a very short time turn off all firewalls and see if it does work.

The guide you offer only relates to windows firewall, it would be good if you could assist people who use different firewalls to, because the reality is not all use windows firewall.

Comodo is one of the top 10.

Good day,

Yes my friend, I know it good firewall, also I know you already know that simply turning off the firewall will not solve the problem, but no harm to try tho.

I still think best to post about that on their forum, regarding setup rules and a like, maybe some advanced users could give a complete guides or a url link that explain it all in that matters.

Also I agree with you on that setting up some firewall is very hard to do, good luck.

5 top secrets why Comodo Firewall is different
  • No complex configuration Issues — perfect for amateur users
  • Quickly learns user behavior to deliver personalized protection
  • User-friendly, attractive graphical interface
  • Lots of configuration options let techies configure things just as they like
  • DDP-based security keeps you informed and PCs safe

Notice the first line in bold from their page, now please tell me again how "smart" you are.  I don't deal with software firewalls, 99% of them are crap.  I run a hardware firewall based off pfsense and I also run IDP/IPS protection based around Suricata to name a few of the security layers on my network.  I'm not going to sit here and teach you how to use your chosen firewall just because you think it's hard for some reason when even the software maker says it's built for "amateurs"

Have a great day!

if you are so good I am sure you could solve my problem in minutes Yes I know pfsense. I have configured hardware firewalls too, and they are most likely more easy then the comod firewall which is confusing to say the least since you must put every firewall in the right order etc.

Pretty sure you will find that 95% of the users on this forum have more knowledge that a basic degree in computer science.

But google is your best friend in this digital age.. don't search for "how to make emby work with comodo" do a search for "port forwarding with comodo"

I just ran through it on my server and took less than 10 mins to get everything sorted and working.

If you can't get it done in the next 24 hour.. post back and i'll help you out.

but the fact that you didn't try it with the firewall down.. means you haven't done enough trying on your own as yet :P

Some people just never try to help themselves first.  And yes for me with 20+ years as a systems admin/engineer it add's up to a tad bit more than a computer science degree.  Sadly many with said type of degrees don't realize that most places see it as useless book smarts means nothing in real world IT, it move's too fast and by the time you get a degree your knowledge is already old.  Nothing beats on the job experience and starting out as a "grunt" so to speak in the field and working your way up through the ranks is still one of the best way's to do it.  The knowledge you gain going that route is priceless and it doesn't land you 100+k in debt to student loans along the way.
