speechles 2055 Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 @@Luke https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby.Plugins/pull/114 The roku can use BIF trick-play with transcoded HLS streams. This was a bug in earlier firmwares that had it disabled. Firmware 6 corrected this but we never noticed. The user, Waldonnis, did notice and made me aware. For these reasons the pull request above requests the directstream only limitation be removed. Thanks. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
speechles 2055 Posted July 6, 2016 Author Posted July 6, 2016 https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby.Roku/pull/146 Here is the cousin of the plugin fix. This one allows the roku to request BIF regardless of play method. All credit to waldonnis for this fix. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk

Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk Will this allow the roku thumbnailer plug in to create bifs for all video's? If so I noticed earlier that on a episode of battle bots I saw that the bif seeker showed up but no images. I am not home now so I will have to post logs tomorrow.

mediacowboy 438 Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 (edited) Okay so I did some more digging and I do not have a bif file created for BattleBots Season 2 Episode 3. Attached you will see the media information and the files I do have created. What else do I need to do to make this work as the Roku is my primary client and I do fall asleep watching shows and it make it nice to fast forward with the thumbnail preview. If I need to post logs please let me know. Server: 3.1.6035.19375 Roku Thumbnailer: 3.0.6020.25379 Edited July 10, 2016 by mediacowboy
BAS 225 Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 I installed this plugin and doing my first run through of creation of bifs . Even with my library size and it's aggressive cpu usage it might be days before I can test.
farside847 39 Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 I am guessing this will not work until the next update of the Roku app gets released, right?
speechles 2055 Posted July 15, 2016 Author Posted July 15, 2016 (edited) It wont work until luke releases an update to the roku plugin. It depends on the plugin to create the BIF files for all your videos. The blueneon app already does support this. The official app has to be updated too. The official app is the one roku has to approve because it shows up on the roku channelstore when searching. This means officially roku updates apps in 2 week cycles. It can take up to 2 weeks to approve apps, and check the code for compliance rules. You can use the official beta app too, I think luke updated it. This updates immediately as private/beta apps arent regulated for compliance rules so dont need approval. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk Edited July 15, 2016 by speechles

Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk I am using the official roku app 2.24 and playing a movie that used to direct play, so it has a BIF file created by the Roku plugin. (there is a 4GB bug with the Roku3 4200). To get the these files to play until a firmware update is released I reduced my setting in the app to 5mgbt streaming to force it to transcode. So, since it has a BIF file, and it is transcoding, I should see FF/RW previews? I am not. The player does not even show the blank boxes when I FF.

Indeed, in that case, use the blueneon app. With it you can "force transcode" and have it fix the issue. You dont need to adjust the bitrate at all. You can keep your quality, and since the video transcodes this gets around the issue. It should copy both streams. Since blueneon also allows BIF trick-play during transcoding this should work. The official app cannot be updated until roku has approved it. It may not pass compliance, and get sent back to the developer with instructions on how to comply. It also means luke has to update it and send the pkg through the roku process. Thats why I said use the official beta, the process is easier, since roku doesnt have to approve the app, it is immediately available. That is.. if luke updated the beta app. I am not sure what his schedule is for doing app updates, and I know he likes to announce them, so all of this is up to his schedule. With the blueneon app it can work for you now. I can only control the updates of the blueneon app. The rest is unforunately out of our control. Be patient, as there are bigger fish to fry for luke. He has many many people shouting his name and priority dictates he be other places. Edited July 16, 2016 by speechles

I just wanted to make sure I wasnt doing something wrong - I will test it out when the new app gets through the Roku process. No big rush.
vaise 340 Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 Hi, Some show and some just are blank. Is this related to that ? If so, when may it be fixed, and will it need to re-run over all media again (took 2 days last time in my new I7 4990K CPU). Thanks.
