phantomscribbler 3 Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 I've been having issues with unnecessary transcoding, I've got a bunch of videos that for no apparent reason always get transcoded on the FireTV, These where all basic AVI's with xvid codec an mp3 audio.. on a whim I repacked one to mkv, and it played perfectly without transcoding... then I tried something else an it worked fine... I simply renamed the *.avi to *.mp4, and that worked.. no transcoding of these files anymore... My question is, it there something a bit wrong going on with the file handling of files with the avi extension?
ebr 16169 Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Most AVIs do not play properly on these devices so we are forced to transcode them to be sure they will play. You can search out here for multiple times where we've tried to direct play these only to then have people pop up and say their items won't play.
