Adding direct shortcuts to homescreen

Lots of other apps have the capability to add direct shortcuts to specific places (like bookmarks) to the homescreen in Android. Web browsers can even so this in iOS. Other apps might, but I'm not up to date on Apple.

 

Would it be difficult to allow the adding of any long-pressable item to the homescreen? This would be handy for super favorites, playlists, maybe even a way to add icons for specific filters/sort views. Like a saved search.

 

Most importantly for me, we could add an icon to homescreen direct to server administration, auto organize, notifications, any of these that we admins frequent.

 

Using the custom widget shortcuts in Android might be useful.
