Slow Scans

Can anyone explain what the library scans and people refreshes are checking for and how long I should expect them to take when there have been minimal changes between scans?

 

My media library scans are taking no less than 50 minutes each time, and to have to wait 50 minutes for a new show to appear seems excessive. People refreshes have never been under an hour.

 

Again this is with minimal changes (last scan ran last night 10PM, this scan today 7PM, server up time between scans approx 3 hours with 2 new tv episodes).

thats not normal. it should take a matter of seconds. can you post a server log

Went through folders it already had info for, not sure why. Checked modified date for a number of the files and it had 'updated' them, although not sure what if anything it updated. The only actual changes are from lines 4297 to 4338 (4 new episodes, possibly some new People).

 

This was one of the quickest scans by far at 13 minutes and 6 seconds.

 

Also, not sure if this is posted here or in the Classic Client, but the Client is incredibly slow whilst this is running, although seemed to speed up somewhat when I switched from Breeze to Default theme.

I don't really see anything abnormal. Once you get through that scan subsequent ones should be faster. It looks like you've got automatic updates enabled for movies and/or tv. That will slow the scan down because it will be constantly getting new online data. So I would start by disabling those.

Hi Luke,

 

Automatic updates under metadata advanced are unchecked. What I'm confused about is why most of the scan is spent updating shows or movies that haven't changed since the last update.

 

Is there possibly something whs may be doing to make the server think they've changed?
