doron 10 Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 (edited) Hi folks, As of a few server releases ago I've started experiencing a new and highly annoying issue. Messages with "New Episode" or "New Season" keep popping up, every couple of moments. Thing is, these episodes or seasons are not at all new, and in fact, it is the same episodes and seasons that keep being announced as new. This became annoying enough that I disabled the notifications in Emby Classic, and will soon disable them in for the web service - but that's obviously a work around. I don't see anything in the server log even related to these episodes... Is this a known issue? How do I get around it? I thought of reinitializing the metadata db but I hate losing the watched states. Thanks for any help. Edited June 23, 2016 by doron
Puff 4 Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 You get notices when there are new episodes or seasons? I have nothing like that.. what version of the server are you running?
doron 10 Posted June 23, 2016 Author Posted June 23, 2016 You get notices when there are new episodes or seasons? I have nothing like that.. what version of the server are you running? I believe I also get notices when there are actually new episodes or seasons (can't swear though, will verify that). Server is currently 3.1.6017.27557, but this has been happening for a while (several versions).
doron 10 Posted June 23, 2016 Author Posted June 23, 2016 what do they look like? The notifications? Standard "new item" type of notifications - either inside WMC (I'm mostly using Classic) or recently also as browser notifications in the system tray balloon area. (is this what you were asking?)
Puff 4 Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 hmmm and you said this has been happening a few versions ago? I am running Version 3.0.5972.0 I have nothing like that popping up. I actually think that would be cool.. something to let me know if I've missed an episode or if there is a new episode or season starting in the next few days.

Here is an example from Chrome look at the bottom right.
Puff 4 Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 I use Edge, IE and the Theatre app I will try Chrome later today and see if I get anything like that. Thanks. Will keep you posted!

Koleckai Silvestri 1154 Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 Have seen these only in the browser. I just ignored them and they went away. I use Google Chrome as a user and Firefox as an admin for Emby.
dcook 299 Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 That looks like the real time monitoring to me, you can disable that in the server settings.
ebr 16185 Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 That looks like the real time monitoring to me, you can disable that in the server settings. That would only change when the notifications arrive.
doron 10 Posted June 23, 2016 Author Posted June 23, 2016 (edited) Just to make sure my issue is clear. I'm not complaining about the actual New Episode etc. popups. These ( a ) are a very cool feature and ( b ) can be disabled at any time, in the applicable client (browser for the web based, settings for the WMC-based "Classic" etc.). My problem is that as of a while ago, these popup started popping every couple minutes for the same episodes / seasons. The items are not really new, and even if they were, I was supposed to receive but one notification for each. I get endless, for the same two items, over and over. Edited June 23, 2016 by doron
Koleckai Silvestri 1154 Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 That looks like the real time monitoring to me, you can disable that in the server settings. Why would we want to do that? That is like cutting off your nose because it itches. It shouldn't add series and seasons that have been in the system already.
AdrianW 1058 Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 Occasionally I'll move completed TV series and watched movies to an archive folder - Emby sees these as new content and will popup notifications for them. You're not moving your content around are you? Do you have content on USB connected drives that may be getting new drive letters assigned? 1
doron 10 Posted June 24, 2016 Author Posted June 24, 2016 You're not moving your content around are you? Do you have content on USB connected drives that may be getting new drive letters assigned? No content is moving while the issue is happening.
ebr 16185 Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 Can you check the creation/modified dates on these items in the file system? Is it possible something is modifying them externally? Otherwise, please post a log. How to Report a Problem
doron 10 Posted June 24, 2016 Author Posted June 24, 2016 Can you check the creation/modified dates on these items in the file system? Is it possible something is modifying them externally? No one is touching these items. But, I think I have the an initial clue as to what is happening. The metadata scraping process is going a bit crazy (and into a loop). Apparently, this starts with a TV series that is identified wrongly (as a different series). It then Creating Season Season 1 entry for Cheap Seats: Without Ron Parker It then "discovers" the episodes as if they were new, and sends the notifications. Then, after a while, it does Removing virtual season Cheap Seats: Without Ron Parker 1 Not 100% sure what the trigger for that is. But anyway this removes the season's metadata from the DB. Rinse, repeat. This happens with a few series in my collection. Hence, an loop of new notifications for old stuff. Otherwise, please post a log. Attached here.
