Jack Burton 98 Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 Just wondering if anyone can take a look at my most recent log and see if there's any obvious reasons my server takes a bit to be useable after being idle? I find it can take anywhere from 2 to 5 minutes before I can actually use it. It may be just that my computer isn't good enough to run things flawlessly, or maybe more ram could help, better hard drives, less hard drives, or maybe I'm just missing something. I feel like it keeps hanging on something. Thanx for looking, appreciate any help server-63601904706.txt

revengineer 142 Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 I think it was critical to have the Metadata and artwork on the ssd. Thats a complex directory structure which takes time to read. So I do not keep the artwork with the media files, which are on spinning drives. 1
dcook 299 Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 If your computer is idle, and you have spinning disks they are normally put in low power mode when not in use, depending on the quality and brand of the disk, it could take some time to fully get up to speed. 1

Thanx for the response. My computer isn't set to idle. I thought it might help to use a program that writes to each of my drives every 5 mins to keep them awake. Saw a bit of an improvement but there's still lag. I'm guessing it's a combination of a bit of a slower PC, and accessing a large library across 3 usb external drives
dcook 299 Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 External USB will be even slower than standard SATA spinning disk, also even if your computer is not idle, the disk can still power down. SSD would be the best for EMBY cache and metadata, and I would not use external USB for your library. Thanx for the response. My computer isn't set to idle.
