Sergio 4 Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 (edited) Hello guys, A thunderstorm messed my TV two weeks ago and I'll go for a new one this weekend. The storm also took ride of the roku, and part of my yamaha decoder so I need some opinions and advice about integration with Emby. It seems to me that Android Tv integration it's good, but I don't really know about Tizen or WebOs. I personally disliked the image on samsungs and also I don't feel so confident with Tizen. I would prefer Android Tv, but I couldn't find any good offer on a 55"-65" Sony. On the other hand I've been tempted by a 60" LG I think it's the 60UF850V model at 1250€ and the possibility of 5 years complete guaranty. What do you guys think? What are your experiences? Note: Opinions, sorry. I can't fix the title. Edited June 17, 2016 by Sergio
CBers 7450 Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 Title edited. What about a cheaper TV and buy an Nvidia Shield TV to plug into it. The Emby ATV app works fine on, as does Kodi with the Emby for Kodi addon. Or a Roku 4 if available in your area. 1
ebr 16169 Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 I highly suggest going the route CBers suggests and get the best TV you can afford for picture quality and other features and then add your "smart" features with a $99-$199 outboard box. This technology moves much faster than you will want to replace TVs so being able to get a new outboard box and have the best of both worlds is the way to go IMO. 2
LibertySw 0 Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 Thanks! I would agree with you, but unfortunately nowadays it's complicated to find a good 60" panel without all the added goods and price. The Roku wasn't available at my location. The two previous ones (all broken by storms) I had to bought them 2nd hand from eBay. I'm a little tired of gadgets, wires and lack of guaranty. Now I appreciate simplicity. Enviado desde mi A0001 mediante Tapatalk
Luke 42077 Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 Yea I think they pretty much go hand in hand now. Even at the low end, it's in the best interest of the tv manufactures include the smart features because then over time they can make more money by selling you streaming content.
LibertySw 0 Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 That's it. So what would you prefer Luke, Android TV? Eerrr... Seems that my Tapatalk it's confusing me with some other user. And the web version doesn't let me in. Enviado desde mi A0001 mediante Tapatalk

CBers 7450 Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 You could get a Tizen TV from Samsung and keep prompting Luke to get the app ported
Sergio 4 Posted June 17, 2016 Author Posted June 17, 2016 Mmmmm... That's a tempting idea. For sure he remembers me from a year ago when we done the openmediavault plugin. Hahaha. Enviado desde mi A0001 mediante Tapatalk
Apotropaic 41 Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 I wouldn't buy a TV with the idea of running emby on it without someone's solid recommendation. I know u can't find a good Sony deal but I have the Sony KD-55x8509c. The emby app itself is getting better and better with each update and it is my primary client. I can't fault it as it provides a nice clean interface. it isnt as rich as other emby client but I don't mind that. But I don't have an external amp etc. so my playback requirements are basic. If only they had given the android TV implementation a little more RAM and CPU power. It would have been perfect but I fear how slow and sluggish the OS will get in the future. Just hoping that won't affect the emby app. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

So, I still say choose your TV based on its picture quality for your content and environment. Then, if the smart features fill the bill for you, great but you can always add an outboard device for not that much more.

[emoji23] I couldn't mount it until midday, but I can trek you that in less than 5min I already had installed crunchyroll and the emby app and I was playing my extended copy of avatar. I really love this rig. Android.... Es la caña. And yes, you can feel it working, but it's a complete so. Not a firmware. The only problem I had was login to emby. The login screen has a problem with hidden users. The login buttons doesn't integrate with the one with the keyboard. So you enter the username and push next, showing OK above. Then you enter the passwd but cancel is highlighted above, do that's what it does. [emoji19] Enviado desde mi A0001 mediante Tapatalk
Apotropaic 41 Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 What a coincidence!! Yeah I had the same issue with the keyboard, the android TV remote app does make it slightly easier doing it from ur phone. The android TV firmware updates have been quite regular so far, so hope they continue. It may be worth entering the beta programme for the emby android TV app depending on ur risk appetite Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

It is maddening and we don't have any control over it (that I'm aware of). That awful implementation is one of the reasons I implemented the alternate method of password entry - the others being the ability to hide what you are inputting from others in the room and just much faster operation overall. 1
Sergio 4 Posted June 22, 2016 Author Posted June 22, 2016 I'll try it. Enviado desde mi A0001 mediante Tapatalk
