chef 3810 Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 This is the worst. My server computer died after a long run. I think the motherboard fried and it took the CPU with it. But, I do have a new motherboard, and an i3 chip which fits it. I also have a second i3 chip which doesn't fit it. I was going to get a second motherboard and build a secondary computer to feed the network. To be honest I really have got no idea what I am doing. I can assemble a computer (I know where to locate the pins on the motherboard for all the fans etc.), but is it possible to use the CPU on the second computer without emby server on it to take some of the transcoding load (instead of pulling the file from it and grinding the main server CPU)? Can I somehow share the CPUs between both computers? Maybe I am dreaming...
chef 3810 Posted June 13, 2016 Author Posted June 13, 2016 (edited) It looks as though what I am after is called a "cluster". Edited June 13, 2016 by chef

Emby has not been designed to support distributed encoding/computing, however it can handle multiple cores/threads. So if you can have your computer view the separate computers as one, then yes, it is possible.
