Any reason why Android tv / firetv can't direct play livetv / recordings from serverwmc on emby? Using serverwmc from kodi everything plays fine. Is there anyway to enable this?

The question is, does the VLC app on Android play them?

VLC app on my phone plays them.  I just tried.  Plays perfectly actually!

You're in the app beta, right?

I'm not actually, should be but just have never done it haha.  its easier via the nexus player right?

It is so we can start with that.  However, I think the NP is going to prefer the Google player over VLC so it may not make a difference.

ok then we should probably get me on the beta for AFTV.  How do I go about doing that again?

Also, as a quick preliminary test, could you provide me with a sample wtv file...?

CRAP lol the gf is the account holder on the device because she initially setup amazon prime!  Going to have to wait on that test until her and I are home at the same time.  I will provide you with a WTV file though.

Our mobile android app has historically had direct play of wtv disabled, but since we just updated libvlc recently i will revert that so we can re-evaluate.

That would be awesome! If it works it's a real game-changer for anyone that uses Windows Media Center as the recording back end.

Your short sample plays for me on the NP.

There is a bit of break-up and stuttering.  Is that in the source?

I don't believe so. They seemed to be clear for me when playing on the computer. I'm on an airplane so can't test at this moment. NP always had issues with mpeg2 so it could be that. My firetv has always handled the HD homerun view app better than the NP unless the NP was close enough for a strong 5ghz wifi signal.

Just downloaded the short sample directly to my phone and it plays fine in vlc. I didn't see any breakup. So it could be the NP. It worked fine for me via kodi though.

This would be a fantastic improvement!

I will be back home Friday from my biz trip so would be happy to test this on both Nexus and firetv this weekend if possible.

It is in the beta that went up yesterday.  Please confirm it doesn't cause problems.

Sweet! I will try it this weekend. Both NP and AFTV with wifi and hardwired.

Would love to hear from anyone else before then though :)

I setup Emby Server recently on my Win7 system and using my Chrome Browser was able to watch Recorded TV (recorded, not Live) WTV format files stored on my NAS.  I could even watch same using my Android device (via the browser).

I today upgraded the same PC to Win10 with No Old Apps Etc setting, installed Emby Server on it and (strangely it remembered my NAS settings) clicked on the "known" WTV files off the NAS but get a "Video Error - There was an error playing the video" message instead.

I can drag the file into Windows Media Player and it plays there (sound and video perfect).  Why can't Emby (transcode) and play it anymore, what do I need to change in Emby?

Thanks!

Also, it sounds like your issue is different than the one in this thread so please create a new post in the Server forum.  Thanks.
