Nvidia Shield help

Ok I am getting to the stage where i just might have to give up with Emby on the Shield. It just wont play anything smoothly. Same material plays fine in other apps being fed from Emby so whats going on with this app? Since the switch to exoplayer its been virtually unusable. Am I the only one getting this?

Do you play a lot of 24p (or 25 if PAL judging by your location) content?

I use the Emby for Android TV app on my Shield TV, Nexus Player and Fire TV.

 

It is the only client I use.

ebr has been very helpful in my playback problems. Filling us in on what content you are trying to play could help him figure out whats going on.

I am in the UK and have no problem with Shield playback. Have you tried adjusting the HDMI resolution (in Shield Settings) to see if that makes any difference? Although we are 50Hz over here I use the 1080p 60Hz setting as recommended by Nvidia. Worth giving the 1080p 50Hz setting a go though as it can be TV dependant.

My files are mainly 24/23.976 with some 25fps content. I expect to see some issues with 25 being played at 60hz  and can deal with 3:2 on 24 but this is not what I am seeing, its often just jumping back a frame. Its almost as if it just no applying the pulldown correctly. If I use TVHZ to switch the output of the system to 24 or 23.976 the playback is even worse and is completely unwatchable on 24fps content. It all used to be great with VLC.

 

As I have said all other apps do not exhibit these playback anomalies and they are accessing the same media via emby on the same machine. As both Archos player and Kodi can refresh switch 24fps is silky smooth, but even when I turn this feature off and they play at 60hz its still very smooth sans the 3:2 pulldown. 

 

I am on the latest dev build of the app.

Emby is in trouble if the Archos player works with your files

Tried the latest release now that came out this week. Much improved although still wont work nicely at 24 if I use TVHZ to switch refresh rate liek it used to but now its watchable at 60hz.
