Amazon Fire TV/4K - Transcoding Limitations

Recommended Posts

I find transcoding a huge limitation and much prefer direct playback.

I have a large collection of home moves (mixture of MPEG and WMVs) where the WMVs playback directly and the MPEGs transcode.

The transcoding stutters and buffers and become unwatchable whereas the WMVs play perfectly.

I'm running the latest versions of VLC and EMBY.

Is this a limitation of EMBY relying on VLC? or can I sort this out?

Thanks

It just sounds like your server is not capable of handling the transcode but that is just a guess without more information (like a transcode log).

Also, why your video is transcoding is a complex question that will require more information as well.  Almost everything I have plays direct on the Fire 4k.

Why is my media transcoding?

ebr, thanks for getting back.

Not sure whats happened but my WMVs are now transcoding. The only thing(s) I have done is introduce another network switch and set up a homegroup which gives R/W access to the EMBY videos folder. I wouldn't have thought that would cause it.

Anyway, played a WMV and attached the server and transcode log for you.

Then I played an MPEG and attached those logs aswell.

Appreciate if you can take a quick look.

Thanks

I believe it is the audio codec of 'wmav2' that is causing the transcode.

I can try allowing that through VLC and see if it will play.  You are in the beta...?

Nope but can be :-)
