Starlionblue 82 Posted May 29, 2016 Posted May 29, 2016 The latest (huge) Windows 10 update deleted the Emby service (and also killed NIC teaming again but that's another story). How do I reinstall the service?
Starlionblue 82 Posted May 29, 2016 Author Posted May 29, 2016 The latest (huge) Windows 10 update deleted the Emby service (and also killed NIC teaming again but that's another story). How do I reinstall the service? As simple as re-installing Emby. Sorry about the panic!
FrostByte 5392 Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 (edited) Just loaded the Creators Update on Win10 and like all the other big updates it deletes the Emby service. Weird thing is that it doesn't delete any of the other services I loaded like Sonarr, Nzbget, etc. It's just the Emby service that gets deleted every time Maybe it thinks Emby is incompatible with Windows? From what I understand it will delete apps which aren't. Anyhow, reloaded Emby from website and service is back so it's all good now again Edited April 12, 2017 by FrostByte 3

CBers 7450 Posted April 14, 2017 Posted April 14, 2017 Little question for people who add this issue : do you use Windows defender? I do, but when I received the CREATORS Update yesterday, the Emby service wasn't deleted.
FrostByte 5392 Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 I do, but when I received the CREATORS Update yesterday, the Emby service wasn't deleted. It probably didn't delete it because you don't run as a service and it wasn't running at the time of the update 1
Starlionblue 82 Posted April 18, 2017 Author Posted April 18, 2017 It probably didn't delete it because you don't run as a service and it wasn't running at the time of the update I stopped the service so it wasn't running. Creators Update still annihilated the service. 1

Was it still set to Automatically start on reboot? I guess I'll try disabling it next major update, in a year or whatever Edited April 18, 2017 by FrostByte
Starlionblue 82 Posted April 18, 2017 Author Posted April 18, 2017 Was it still set to Automatically start on reboot? I guess I'll try disabling it next major update, in a year or whatever I had it set to "Manual". Like you , next time around I'll try "Disabled" and see what happens.
CBers 7450 Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 Seems strange why certain services are deleted and others aren't though.

jscoys 147 Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 (edited) In fact, and I don't know why, every time a big update of windows 10 is installed, it reinitialize a lot of things, including Emby server. It is not especially because Emby is seen as a malware or something like that. Other example is termsrv.dll that is changed (Remote Desktop) or my Xbox one controllers that are not recognized after big updates... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Edited April 18, 2017 by jscoys
FrostByte 5392 Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 I have other services (Sonarr, Radarr, NZBget, etc) which don't get deleted when I update Windows. There must be something about the things that do get deleted which MS is identifying as incompatible or unknown and then deleting 1

naeonline 27 Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 The major windows updates aren't like the 'Service Packs' of old when they install, they are actually in-place upgrades to the new build level.

Indeed. In fact, u get a Windows.old folder on C:. And have to use Disk Cleanup (system files option) to remove the old os version to free up over 20GB of the old files.
