jcain 7 Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 So I have an older core duo 2,0ghz laptop with intel 965 video chipset. My 1:1 bluray rips are just too much for it to handle. I was wondering if there is a way to set up a specific user profile for that laptop to use so I can set up forced transcoding for every movie file that it requests. Thanks, Jon
Luke 42077 Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 that's not going to work out very well. if the server is on the same machine there is no way that cpu would fare better with encoding than direct playback. and even if it's not, our folder rip streaming is only experimental. we try to do it but it often has mixed results.
jcain 7 Posted January 3, 2014 Author Posted January 3, 2014 Negative, my server is a 12 core (dual hex) opteron 2.4ghz with 32gb of ecc ram. the server is very very capable of transcoding many things at once. all my movies are saved in mkv container.
Luke 42077 Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 ok, well you should indicate what client your'e asking for with this, or better yet, file this in the forum for that particular client.
jcain 7 Posted January 3, 2014 Author Posted January 3, 2014 i mean, if the server can transcode for tablets, i'm not sure why it can't be tricked into sending the laptop the same material it would send a phone or tablet.
Luke 42077 Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 the server sends back whatever the client tells it to send, which is why you need to ask the developer of that particular client.
