AC3 5.1 playing as Stereo

I've noticed that Apple TV is not playing the audio as 5.1 and is downmixing to stereo.  Other than this, playback is fine.

 

AppleTV audio settings are set to 5.1 and if I stream a 5.1 movie from Netflix it works fine so I think it is the app.

 

Files that I'm playing are ts containers with h.264/AC3 5.1.  Log (attached) shows that a direct stream is attempted although it looks like I'm getting an error.

You need to make sure the device is set to "Dolby Digital Surround" (I think that is the exact wording).

Mine says Dolby Digital 5.1.  I did have it set on that and tried it again after a AppleTV restart.  It is working correctly now.

Glad you got it going.  Probably was a HDCP handshake issue.
