pr3dict 33 Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 Hi all, Currently I live in a house shared with some friends. We have a cable provider that basically has no DRM so I have had my server connected to our network and records live TV with a 6tuner TV tuner... Fast forward to a month from now when I live in a new house. This cable provider locks down literally everything and the TV packages are a lot more. I was thinking I should leave the server where it is and just stream the Live TV to my new location. My only issue is that I want to have a local server onsite for hardware issues related to my movie collection or anything like that. (I'm currently designing a new server to be a little more powerful) So what do you all recommend? If I keep two servers active I feel like thats going to be a PITA to switch servers just to watch tv vs watch my movie library. Any ideas? Thanks all!
pr3dict 33 Posted May 21, 2016 Author Posted May 21, 2016 Here I would set up a VPN connection to the 6tuner TV tuner location, and connect Emby to that. That way you can still stream TV and have Emby on same location. This can be done with either a simple router/switch or a raspberry pi. Hmm so your saying get a server with let's say serverwmc and VPN that to the emby server at the remote location? Sent from my VS987 using Tapatalk
pr3dict 33 Posted May 22, 2016 Author Posted May 22, 2016 Not even that, as long as your tuner is IP capable, you can route that traffic to another location. I do that here where I live where my TV provides has an IP PVR. I set up a VPN on my home internet connection, and connect to that on location 2 to be able to view TV there. Interesting... So lets flow this out... Location 1 - Cable TV Router Running VPN client ----> HD Homerun TV tuner Location 2 - Emby Server Router Running VPN Server ---> Emby Server Location 2 - Client 1-2 Playback requires... Client 1 ---> Emby Server tells client to go to TV tuner to direct play ---> Client 1 goes through VPN server ----> HD Homerun direct plays back through VPN Server Location remote client Playback requires... Remote client to go to Location 2 ----> emby either transcodes or tells to direct play ----> then go through vpn to HD homerun and play back through VPN... Basically my question is, will their be a ping delay issue? Internet speed is 50mbps up and 50mpbs down at location 1.... 75mbps down and 35mbps up at location 2 If that isnt an issue then this seams like a GREAT IDEA!!!!
