Emby and Windows 10

Morning all,

 

As the July cutoff looms ever closer for the free Windows 10 upgrade, I decided I would upgrade one of my Intel NUCs which was running Windows 8.1 Pro to Windows 10, obviously WMC is gone, so I installed Emby Theatre.

I found it sluggish, unreliable and so unusable I ended up reverting back to Windows 8.1, I can't be the only person on Windows 10, so was wondering what you early converts found, and any gotchas that I need to look out for.

 

Your thoughts and experiences are most welcome, thanks.

My advice is that you stay with windows 7 or 8.1 if you spend as HTPC, everything will be easier and enjoyable for you until the end of the 2020-2021 support, then we will decide to do.

I tried while Windows 10 and was a headache for me, until I check that did not offer me anything better than Windows 7.

Anyway It's only my personal advice

I stayed with Windows 7 for the same reasons.  I'm sure Emby Theatre will be excellent as it progresses.  It runs fine for me on Windows 7 and I like it better than other options out there on the market but I really like WMC and I wanted to keep using it.

 

Microsoft will hopefully come out with another version of Windows, in my opinion Win 10 was just a stepping stone to hopefully something better.

I'm using kodi as my frontend so maybe not completely relevant but Emby server runs fine on windows 10 for me. Better than it did on 7.

It works totally fine for me here on Windows 10. I haven't had any issues at all with 10 or Emby Theater. But then again, I never really used Media Center anyway. I didn't have an issue with any DRM channels so I always used one of the other DVR alternatives.

Using Emby Theater on Windows 10 without problems. However it is my full desktop machine not an HTPC. Never personally liked Windows Media Center but then I don't have live TV, which was WMC's saving grace.

I have been using Windows 10 since it was first released and find the performance much better than Windows 7 or 8
