grunander 0 Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 Hello I'm new to this and have a fairly basic question. Can someone direct me to how to connect a remote user ? I have my brother at his house, different location trying to connect to my server. He has an emby account and I have added him as a user on my account. He is using a ROKU 3 player at his house and can see my server on his player but when trying to connect it states "Unable to connect please make sure it is running" The server is running on my end. I believe we have missed a step or i missed something on my end. Can someone direct me to instructions on how to do this ? Thanks
Happy2Play 9783 Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 Are you able to click the Remote Access address on the Dashboard and connect to your server?
grunander 0 Posted May 19, 2016 Author Posted May 19, 2016 Yes I can click on it but it replies This site can’t be reached took too long to respond. Try: Reloading the page Checking the connection Checking the proxy and the firewall ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT
Luke 42085 Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 That's OK. If your router doesn't allow loopback then it won't be possible to use the remote address from inside your home network. Please take a look at our Connectivity Troubleshooter. Please try the steps listed there and let us know how far you get before you get stuck. That will help determine where the issue is. thanks.
Happy2Play 9783 Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 So Firewall or Port forwarding issue, I would start here Connectivity.
grunander 0 Posted May 19, 2016 Author Posted May 19, 2016 Thank you both very much. I will try this when I can sit down. I appreciate the help
grunander 0 Posted May 20, 2016 Author Posted May 20, 2016 I was able to open the ports to 8096 on the port forwarding but still no luck on connecting. After port forwarding 8096 is there any other steps needed. This is what I see I put 8096 in the inbound port and the private port. Am I missing anything else ? Or am I wrong ? Thank you for any help. On Description Inbound port Type Private IP address Private port 1. - BOTHUDPTCP 192.168.2. - 2. - BOTHUDPTCP 192.168.2. - 3. - BOTHUDPTCP 192.168.2. -
grunander 0 Posted May 20, 2016 Author Posted May 20, 2016 Does anyone know the internal or inbound port for emby ? or is it 8096

grunander 0 Posted May 22, 2016 Author Posted May 22, 2016 Thank you all for your help. I finally got the connection to work but my brother tells me that there is quite a lot of buffering before loading a movie and during the movie. He reports sometimes it buffers every 15 minutes. Is this a connection issue from my end or is it an internet issue ?

Hi, you said he's using a roku 3? have him go into the app's settings and lower the max streaming bitrate. it might just be too high for what the connection can handle. let us know how it goes. thanks.
