I created an account with Git Hub, verified my email address then tried to login to the ember web interface. Username or password is invalid. I keep trying but still same error message.

I then create a brand new account wher I am now logged into here, but guess what, same error message when trying to log into the web interface of 192.16.8.3:8096/weblogin

Why is this happening? I can login into Git Hub, and here but not the web interface, unless of course it's a different username and password which is required????

Hi there, welcome. What do you mean created with github? You can't sign into emby apps using your github credentials, if that's what you mean.

Well when googled tocreate an emby account I was given the Git Hub site as an option, maybe not now tho'.

So how do I create an emby account so that I can log in to the webinterface. Maybe too much choice before and I went to the wrong one, maybe.

The second time I went here to creat a new account:

https://emby.media/community/index.php?app=core&module=global&section=register

And after doing so I used the same username and password I registered with to login to the web interface, but no I cannot.

You just need to login to your emby server:  http://yourserverip:8096

When you installed it it would have asked you to setup admin account, once you login you can click on users and create as many accounts as you want.

Thanks, but I have the emby plugin installed in my FreeNAS box, and wasn't asked for any information at all; it just installed and gave me the IP address which I am using with port 8096. It is here that I am asked for login details.

I have just deleted the emby plugin from my Freenas box and reinstalled it. Again I was not asked for any login details etc.

I did think that it was my login details for my Freenas server, but they didn't work either.

Looking at this page , it says nothing about logging into emby on a server:

Well as there is no further answers I might as well just delete the emby plugin and stick with another program.

Thanks anyway

Hi, apologies, you were in my queue to respond to.

When you first installed Emby Server, a local user was created with the user name that you entered (or took default), during the server setup wizard. This user initially has no password. You were also given the option to map that user to an online Emby user for easy remote access away from home. I am guessing you probably skipped that. This is the part that requires a login and password.

What I would do is take a look at our wiki on Users:

https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Users

It goes over what local users are (privately managed on your Emby Server), as well as Emby Connect. Please let us know if you have any additional questions. Thanks.

Thanks fo the link, but I can't see how it helps me.

As I have previously said, I have the emby plugin installed on my FreeNAS server, and when it was installed I was not asked for any information at all. So that means I cannot login as either admin or user

It does help you, along with what I said in post #8. Did you read it? The setup wizard creates a user and that is the admin user.

I have deleted the emby plugin and then re installed it.

These are the steps taken during the install and setup:

Click on emby plugin to install it.

Do you want to install this plugin... Yes

Downloading plugin

Creating template

Creating Jail

Plugin successfully installed

I was not asked for any further information nor was I given any option to map any user to an online Emby user. At which point should this have happened then?

After clicking on the emby plugin on my FreeNAS box I am given a link to emby start up page. Here I have set up the default emby name and my email address, then got this:

The Emby account has been added to this user. An email will be sent to the owner of the account. The invitation will need to be confirmed by clicking a link within the email.

Clicked on the link contained in the email and was taken here:

The server emby_1 is now linked to your Emby Account. You can now access it by logging in with your Connect user name in any supported client app or at http://app.emby.media. Enjoy!

I then go through the setup of my media files etc and after all that is done I am at a login page, where I am sked for username and password.

And that is where I can't go any further.

Ok, the username is the user that was added during the startup wizard. the password at this stage is blank because you haven't added one in the server dashboard.

Alright then, so where is the server dashboard or where should I have seen it. Is it in the startup page?

I have started afresh and am now on the first wizard page : http://192.168.0.3:8096/web/wizarduser.html

You have to complete the setup wizard first, so about 5 pages after that one.

Yes as happy2play said, click through the setup wizard, after hitting finish you'll be taken to the login screen. Please tell us what you see there. thanks.

Ok,this is the login screen now: http://192.168.0.3:8096/web/login.html

Here I can login manually or click on forgot password.

It doesn't look like a server dashboard to me, well not yet it doesn't.

does it show you a user that you can click on?

Ah , yes it does actually , me! So I clicked on the user and was presented with a dashboard! Well I never knew that is how to get to it.

emby_1 tells me that there is a new version of Emby Server

A new version of Emby Server is available!

Version 3.0.5970 is now available for download.

Running on http port 8096, and https port 8920.

Local access: http://192.168.0.3:8096

Remote access: http://81.100.235.177:8096

I am also asked to Shutdown the server

I am now assumuming that the new version of Emby Server is the one on my FreeNAS server. The file version there is emby-3.0.5934-amd64

So if I shutdown how can I update manually?

Not familiar with non-windows versions, but you could shut down the server and reinstall the new version from the website.  Nothing will be lost with reinstall/updates.

AFAIK the emby server update has to be done through or with FreeNAS, as there is now way that I know of to manually update the emby_1 file.

I would rather just stick with what I have until FreeNAS tells me that there is an update for emby_1.

That being said, what is my next step now then? Where or how do I get the option to map a user

Edit: I went to 'Users' and clicked on me, then went through the top menu items until I got to password. Here I entered a new password then re entered it but got this after clicking on 'Save'

Login Failure

Invalid username or password. Please try again.

What do you mean map a user?  Not sure on the update process but I wouldn't imaging any different then the install process.

Ok then, maybe a wrong use of terminoligy, but it was from this line: 'You were also given the option to map that user to an online Emby user'

Happy2Play I see you have a windows home server which is quite different from a FreeNAS server. Windows is windows, while FreeNAS is more like a linux variant, and things aren't as straightforward with my situation as to yours.

From my earlier post:

Edit: I went to 'Users' and clicked on me, then went through the top menu items until I got to password. Here I entered a new password then re entered it but got this after clicking on 'Save'

Login Failure

Invalid username or password. Please try again.

What should I have done?

So I'm on the Dashboard home page, where do I go next?

You can also map a user right from the user edit screen
