Hello

I've read that there is now an issue with anamorphic content of SD material. The ability to set them to horizontal stretch seems to work in my case but i was wondering...

Is there a way to add a preset that all SD content is horizontally stretched by default? Or maybe remember the setting you put per file?

Also i noticed that one of my users that has its default audio language set to french always plays the default english audio track... even though the track languages are set correctly in the files...

On the positive side the transcoding changes you made recently work amazingly well! Vc1 files now play easily on my nexus player even though the server runs on a fairly old pc.

Thanks for the good work!!

Not all SD content will be affected so such an option wouldn't really work that well.

As for the language selection, it depends on the player as, if we are direct streaming the selection of the language is sometimes left up to it.  So, in some situations, this could potentially be the case.  My suggestion would be to have the track you want selected be either the default or first track in the container.

This whole anamorphic issue adds an annoying little step each time you want to watch sd content... there must be a way to have it set automatically... maybe a tag or something?

And both languages should direct stream... they're either dts or aac. Shouldn't the language preference override anything else? Otherwise it seems a little wonky and random.

As far as the language issue goes i did a few more tests and basically it always play the default audio track.

I always have the original language of the movie set as the default track. But people in my household prefer to have them play in french... (pesky unbilingual kids...) so i clearly identify both audio languages and set the default.

Their user preferences are clearly set to play french audio but every file they play will play the default audio and not the alternate french track. It used to work fine before too... so something changed causing this issue.

What can be done?

check their user preference about always playing the default audio track regardless of language

I did and the audio is set to french and the default audio track checkbox is off.

That does feel like a bug.

I thought this was limited to my nexus player but i get the same behaviour everywhere... i tried on my android phone and in chrome too.

Oh - the server remembers track selections from the last time they played, so if they already played that same video once, their selection will be remembered. Try it on a brand new video.

If the issue persists then please provide details of a specific example. thanks.

The issue, specifically for the ATV app is that the internal player being used has its own logic for selecting which audio track is playing and there is no way for us (yet) to tell it to play a different one.  So, if it is direct streaming with the internal player, the only way to change the track will be to do it after playback starts.

This is why I suggested actually re-arranging the track order in the container because this may enable us to determine that the internal player isn't going to select the track you want or it may make it select a different track.

Ok i will do a few reordered files to test it out... although not having the default english track as first seems a bit odd...

Sorry i haven't had time yet to try this out. I put a lot of hope in that '(yet)' of yours otherwise the whole point of having a language setting for users becomes pointless in my opinion.

However the language user setting for subtitles work fine as expected.

Bigger picture: in my household i watch in English and my kids in french... say i reorder the tracks to have french as first track and english as second but with the default tag on english... if that works, great for us but say someone out there has triple language tracks or more... it simply won't work for them...

Anyway i will get to try things out as soon as i can.
