perx 4 Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 Hi, I'm using ServerWMC for my backend, with Ceton tuners, and using a Nexus Player for viewing. With mostly out of the box settings, my setup has been working fine for both Live TV and Recorded TV. But it's transcoding the content and while it looks ok, I would like to force the stream to direct play to avoid cpu load and ideally improve quality. I understand the Nexus Player supports mpeg2 decoding with Marshmallow, which I have and which I assume all my cable content is, so I thought I'd try to make that work. That said, I'm still pretty new to emby and the profiles. I looked in the logs to see what the media was coming in, I think it said that the container was .ts so I added that to the container options in the default profile to see if I could force it to direct play. But its still transcoding... attached is the transcode log When I see this line, I'm not sure what I'm reading... what is the difference between Direct Stream vs Direct Play? Do you have any direction for me to try to troubleshoot and/or force the direct stream? {"Protocol":"Http","Id":"15","Path":"http://192.168.1.178:9180/serverwmc.stream/StreamRemuxFile?clientName=Emby%5ePERKINS-HP%5e15","Type":"Default","Container":"ts","ReadAtNativeFramerate":false,"SupportsTranscoding":true,"SupportsDirectStream":false,"SupportsDirectPlay":true,"RequiresOpening":true,"RequiresClosing":true,"LiveStreamId":"1a755974de5dc3461dc6ecae8ddec68b_b4dc767f31fd4807454a2676b13be5fd_15","MediaStreams":[{"Codec":"ac3","Language":"eng","IsInterlaced":false,"ChannelLayout":"5.1","BitRate":448000,"Channels":6,"SampleRate":48000,"IsDefault":false,"IsForced":false,"Type":"Audio","Index":0,"IsExternal":false,"IsTextSubtitleStream":false,"SupportsExternalStream":false}, transcode.txt
ebr 16169 Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 For ServerWmc, I believe you need to enable http in that interface in order to get direct playback. But, in reality, I think ServerWMC is actually still in the middle as opposed to us going straight at the tuner.
perx 4 Posted May 10, 2016 Author Posted May 10, 2016 Thanks ebr. I have the http enabled in ServerWmc so I guess that's not going to work. Would you know if NextPVR would have the same issue? I have a hdhomerun prime in the mail, so maybe that will be a better setup for me?
ebr 16169 Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 With an HDHR you can just use our built-in support which will definitely direct stream.
