Duplicates with multiple versions?

I'm getting duplicates (or removals) with multiple versions of the same file (but not all, only some - it is not consistent).  I have followed the naming conventions indicated in the wiki and on the forums, although I am unclear as to whether the "-" needs a space before and after it or not, as I have tried both and I cannot get a consistent response.  Additionally, for ones where it appears to have a "conflict" they don't show up in the movie list at all anymore, but they do show up in metadata manger (more like a folder).

I've attached screen shots and am happy to provide relevant logs (though I'm not sure what the relevant logs for this one would be).

The screen shots show:

1. The file naming convention utilized in the folder

2. The appearance of the item in the metadata manager

3. It not showing up in the library screen.

4. The file path showing up in Metadata manger indicating it more as a folder without recognizing the actual files.

Thoughts?

Additionally, is it possible to not rename the "base file" with the dash and simply rename the additional files with the dash?

that naming for 9 is correct. No, right now it's not possible to have a base file.

Any thoughts on why it is coming up incorrectly?  For further documentation, I'm uploading some screenshots of iron man, which some work as linked and some don't.

When they don't link here is what it looks like in the display (essentially as if the movie is there twice):

The next pics are all going to be from Iron Man 1 and Iron Man 2.  You'll note it processed Iron Man 2 just fine, linked the files, but Iron Man 1, I'm getting duplicates.

The first pics are from Iron Man 1 (metadata manager, and the duplicate movie posters in the movie view, and the folder view).

These pics are Iron Man 2 (note the file naming structure, etc. are the exact same.)post-2681-0-46220500-1462810324_thumb.pngpost-2681-0-94934000-1462810323_thumb.pngpost-2681-0-08227600-1462810325_thumb.pngpost-2681-0-48490600-1462810325_thumb.png

I hope that is helpful.

iron man seems to be missing the spaces around the dash

Oddly, they are all labeled the same exact way (without spaces).  So perhaps that is my issue.  I've tried it both ways with inconsistent results, but I'll try and make it so they all have spaces and report back later.

So, this is not consistent for me.  I"m not sure what I should be doing differently.  Ihave followed the naming convention.  Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.  I've only got about 20 files that aren't linked.  Can I do it manually?

the convention can be strict. it probably wasn't followed.

I'm not sure why 10 files would be non-compliant, and the other 500 would.  Anyways, not important, I figured out how to group them.  Thanks for your help regardless.

More detailed examples would be needed in order to determine that.

Luke,

I've provided as much detail as possible.  I think something different must be causing the problem, as I "Grouped" the files and they are still showing up separately but also one of them has a "2" next to it.

What additional detail can I provide?

Right but then i gave you something to change so now we need to start from square 1 again.

In your example you actually have two different Iron Man files, both of them have different file names and one of them is MP4 and the other is a MPEG file, so I suspect that is why you are seeing it listed twice.

Got ya.  All I did was add the spaces.  Same problem.

This is what the naming convention is for.

To be honest i can't really follow those examples due to the cardboard cutouts of the screenshots. i really need to see the things you cut out because that's what allows me to see the whole picture.

Ok.  I'll take new screenshots and upload.  Sorry for the disjointed info.

Exactly that is my point, you are mixing MP4 and MPEG types, in the naming convention it says:

/Movies

/300

/300 - 1080p.mkv

/300 - 720p.mkv

What you have:

Foldername: Iron Man(2008)

Ironman (2008)-480p.mp4

Ironman (2008)-720p.mpeg

Since one is a .mp4 and the other a .mpeg I suspect EMBY is seeing them as two different files.

Also your folder name is not the same as the file name, which it should be as detailed in the naming convention.

You can either fix the folder name and file name to match, or delete the low res version, so there is just one

If you delete the low res 480p version you will be fine.

No, that is not how the naming convention works.  You are supposed to be able to mix file types.

multiple file types are fine. i'll update the doc.

Legalink, check your folder/files again, you have a space in "Iron Man" in your files, but the folder does not have a space.

yes it's

foldername - 1080p.mkv
foldername - 720p.mp4

Perhaps that is related?  I didn't think about files and folders having to be the same.  Thanks for the thought!  @@Luke, is that accurate?

From the Wiki:

Each version must begin with the folder name, followed by " - ". If this requirement is not met, they will be treated as separate videos.

Ok, let me do some digging.  I didn't even think of that.  Thanks! (Although I don't know how the movie "9" would be different, but I'll sort that out.

I'll report back.

Yea it's pretty strict. I can try to look at loosening it up in the future the problem is just potential collisions with other features, such as multiple movies combined in single folders for example.
