Hey everyone. I'm running into an issue with emby server on Windows recently. When going to emby either on the web interface or the iPhone app, it takes a long time to load. The circle will spin for a bit and then load and all will be well. You can browse around the site with no issues. But after some time it will happen again. You go back to the home page or anywhere and then it will sit there for a bit at the spinning circle.

What can we do to troubleshoot this and get to the bottom of it?

Thanks in advance!!

I am not home right now so I can not get the logs. But I wanted to add that the stalling also happens when logging in through the roku app. As soon as I get to my server I will get you the logs!

sorry for the delay. hope we can get this figured out!

There was a 3rd log i wanted to include but it was too big to fit. I hope those 2 give some insight!

The logs look OK to me. A good thing to try in this situation is removing plugins and seeing if the issue persists with just the core server.

I removed the trailers plugins and genre plugin. Issue I think seems to happen more so after the auto organize sorts new files in.

Does that provide any hints? And is there anyway to send you a bigger more complete log. Maybe there are more clues there.

Another thing I am trying now is I had my cache and meta data on a ssd drive. I reset the paths in emby back to default and am letting the server rebuild it now as we speak. So far from what I can tell the stall outs aren't happening. The ssd drive is good I have verified it twice.

Just adding more information to this to help you out Luke!

Thanks. Please continue with my suggestions in post #5.

I THINK what fixed it was moving the cache and metata data folder back to the default directories of the server. It seems to be well now. I don't get it. Why would outting that data in a ssd drive cause the issues I had ?

Any thoughts luke

I am not sure.

Disregard I was wrong. Server still has the lag and stall out

What browser are you using and do you have any antivirus software installed on the server?

Happens with Friefox, Safari, iphone app, roku box. I have no antivirus installed on the server whatsoever.

I'm really at a loss as to what could be wrong :( I'm a Tech by trade so Im like hitting my head against the wall as I try to figure this out

I had issues with long load times with apparently no solution in sight. I finally replaced the os drive with the entire emby server install with an ssd and my problems went away.

This is a new server I just got and the primary drives are 10krpm drives. I honestly don't think it would be the drive. I know ssd is faster but I did have the cache and metadata stored in a ssd. Only reason I took it off was for testing.

Is there a media scan running when it stalls?

Usually not. I just rebooted the server. Formatted the SSD drive, and am in the process of letting it build the cache and metadata on the SSD. seems ok for now.

Ok I think I am noticing the pattern now.

I think the problem happens mostly right after A LOT of content gets added to the server. The Auto Organize feature kicks in, sorts lets say 8 seasons of a show over, then that stall out happens. Is it possible that while emby is importing new things into the data base and doing the whole image thing and chapter extraction that it causes my symptoms?

Is this function by design, or a possible kind of bug?

Posted

Only if you configured it to do that.

I did configure it to auto-organize, but should it cause Emby to have this symptom that I have been describing Luke?

Those other operations you were mentioning will execute if you've configured them to do so.

Can you be more specific Luke. Not following you!!!

Do you have "Extract chapter images during the library scan"?  Library-Advanced-Chapters

Yes I do! If I were to disable that, when would Emby do the chpater image extraction? Do you think emby pulling chapter images along with importing could causing the stalling?

I could probably test that by disabling, though I have to say the machine I'm running emby on is no slouch by any extent of the imagination!

You can run chapter image extraction as a separate scheduled task

Ie if you disable that option you can still set emby to extract chapter images as a separate task on its own schedule
