cherold 0 Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 I installed Emby yesterday. I created a Media Library for TV,. It was scanned, and when I went to the media browser and looked in SHOWS. I saw that it only showed series that were in their own folders (I've previously used plex, which has mysteriously stopped working, so there had been no need to put things into their own folders). So I moved all my series into their own folders. After scanning, there were less series showing; only two. Everything else was gone. I was very puzzled. I tried rescanning, restarting the server, but there was no effect. Then I decided to remove then recreate the folder. After doing that, nothing showed in the folder, not in SHOWS, not in EPISODES, not in LATEST. The thumbnail for my TV does show a poster for one of the series in that folder, but that series doesn't show either. I tried making something closer to the particular naming convention here, but it had no effect. But of course, it shouldn't really make a different, because at the least, it should be showing the series that it showed the first time I installed it, when I had made no efforts to work with those specific conventions. The folder for my movies works fine, but for TV I've had to create a Home Movies library so I can find my media. This isn't terrible, and I can live with it if I have to, but if there's a fix for this I'd like to know what it is. Thanks.
wrapmaster4500 9 Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 Things I would check for this - If EMBY is to be the only media solution for you, I would remove any xml files, nfo files and any other metadata from the TV shows folder (including any found in sub-directories) Make sure the folder structure is something like this \TV Folder\TV show\season x\ Make sure in the dashboard under Library, that "TV Folder" is selected as Type TV Allow the scan to complete and you should be good. Basically put your shows into one folder and then select that folder as the TV folder (content type TV), and make sure you've no redundant metadata files (xml, nfo etc.) or remove everything but the media files. You can use multiple folders if you want and place them all in one EMBY container, just make sure each is the folder below the TV show folders (as in don't directly select each TV show)
cherold 0 Posted May 9, 2016 Author Posted May 9, 2016 There are no xml or nfo files in the folders or subfolders. The library is set as type TV. And I did set up one folder in the \TV folder\TV show\Season x\ format to see if that helped (it didn't). And there's still the question of why at first Emby recognized several folders and then stopped recognizing them when all I'd done is created some more folders without changing the folders it was previously recognizing. There's something wonky about the whole thing.
bluemonkey07 590 Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 (edited) Perhaps a permissions issue? See here:http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/790-How-to-report-a-problem Edited May 10, 2016 by Vidman
Luke 42085 Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 Hi, can we please see some specific examples? Some screenshots of the files within the folders would be great, along with the corresponding screens in the web UI. thanks!

Okay, here's a two shots showing the file structure on windows of my Drama folder, a shot of the dashboard (Drama is the last one on the right), and a shot of Drama in the library, which is completely empty.
Solution AdrianW 1058 Posted May 16, 2016 Solution Posted May 16, 2016 It looks like you've defined multiple libraries containing the same folders. You shouldn't have one library pointing at D:\TV Shows and another library pointing at a subfolder below that (like D:\TV Shows\Drama). If you want to keep your TV shows separate then it's best to create separate libraries pointing at your individual subfolders (Comedy, Drama, etc). Make sure you don't have any content in D:\TV Shows which isn't in a subfolder. You could create a single library pointing at the top level D:\TV Shows - and then you'll get a nested view. You'll probably need to set that library to "Unset (Mixed Content)". Also, after changing your library definitions, don't forget to let the scan complete before trying to browse them. 2
cherold 0 Posted May 16, 2016 Author Posted May 16, 2016 Ah, some sort of conflict. That answers it. I did get it working, but honestly, I find the emby system perplexing and rather than trying to figure it out I'm just going to keep using the home movies format. Thanks for your help.
