Just the other day my recorded TV stopped showing up in emby. When I look in the logs I see this error

2016-05-07 18:31:55.5735 Error LibraryMonitor: Error watching path: \\HOME-SERVER\Recorded TV
	*** Error Report ***
	Version: 3.0.5934.0
	Command line: C:\Users\htpc.MCLAUGHLIN.000\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\System\MediaBrowser.ServerApplication.exe
Operating system: Microsoft Windows NT 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1
	Processor count: 2
	64-Bit OS: False
	64-Bit Process: False
	Program data path: C:\Users\htpc.MCLAUGHLIN.000\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server
	Application Path: C:\Users\htpc.MCLAUGHLIN.000\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\System\MediaBrowser.ServerApplication.exe
The directory name \\HOME-SERVER\Recorded TV is invalid.
	System.ArgumentException
	   at System.IO.FileSystemWatcher..ctor(String path, String filter)
	   at MediaBrowser.Server.Implementations.IO.LibraryMonitor.<>c__DisplayClass12.<StartWatchingPath>b__11()

It says that \\HOME-SERVER\Recorded TV is not valid, however if I type that into Windows explorer it works fine.

This was also working in emby up until recently. I wonder if one of the recent updates broke something.

I thought it might be a problem with the directory name having a space in it. So I created another directory called \\HOME-SERVER\RecordedTV and put a couple shows in it and rescanned the library. When it was done, I still didn't have anything listed under the Recorded TV library and I saw these two entries in the log.

FYI all my recorded TV are in the .wtv format. Also, thinking I had caused this with a bad plugin, or setting, I uninstalled emby and all its data, then did a clean install without any plugins. Still no Recorded TV.

Hi, I don't think the space is a problem. Is that folder on the same machine? If not, perhaps the network or machine wasn't up when the server tried to reach it?

Emby is able to find all my other media, and they are on the same machine and network path as the recorded tv. It is only the recorded tv that it cannot find. Could it be a problem with the .wtv file format?

No, wtv is supported. what does the folder structure look like? can you provide screenshots? thanks.

The folder is completely flat

I also enabled debug logs, shutdown the server, deleted all the logs, started it back up and ran a library scan. here is what I got in the logs.

I see a lot of errors for musicbrainz "2016-05-08 19:18:28.4908 Error App: Error in MusicBrainz" how do I turn that off?

what content type did you setup the library as?

Posted

Ok, right now, the tv content type is somewhat strict and requires following the structure listed in the tv naming guide:

https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/TV%20naming

We can look at handling that kind of flat structure for a future release. For now you might just want to reclassify it as home videos.

This worked before, it has only been in the last couple weeks that it stopped working.

However, I will try setting it to home videos

Maybe it did, but until we call it a supported feature it's not being tested and therefore is liable to stop working at any time.

Just so I have this straight. The expected behavior is that when a new show is recorded off the TV, before it will show up, the user has to manually go and organize it by show, season, and episode, and possibly rename the file so it matches your naming convention?

That seems like a lot of work, especially considering new episodes are coming every day.

No, that's not true, because the home videos or unset content types are always available to you, they just won't offer all of the features that a dedicated tv library would. but that kind of flat structure is something we could look at for a future release.

That's what the auto organize function currently does.

To a point it will. On the auto organize page it says it will not create new folders, only add to existing series.
