Hardware - xeon d or xeon e3 v5?

Last year I put together new hardware for FreeNAS and at the time I did not plan to have any plug-ins so I went with Intel C2758. It works great and more recently I added Emby plugin and it works well with Emby Theater (direct play) however some devices I use (DLNA) would force the server to transcode. Single stream seems to work well but starts to stutter when I turn subtitles on so I'm looking to upgrade hardware for FreeNAS. I've been waffling between xeon d (either 1521 or 1541) and xeon E3 v5. The xeon E3 has better single thread performance which may be important for transcoding. I'm not sure if anyone has xeon d set up and has no issues running with more than 1 stream and subtitles enabled?
