Lighthammer 91 Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 So, I've been having a really big problem for about a month now: Emby seems to be REALLY struggling with actually downloading artwork and extracting images. It seems to only be doing this "on demand"; as in when I want to see that content. No amount of task scheduling has fixed this.
Luke 42083 Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 Hi, unfortunately trying to determine what might have happened in the past is just going to be guesswork. Next time it happens, please see how to report a problem. thanks.
Lighthammer 91 Posted May 6, 2016 Author Posted May 6, 2016 It's an ongoing issue.I've been having new media have this problem for a while, but now, I'm adding the IMDB tags on my media to make migrating all the media to a more powerful server easier; which I'm doing in the future. Here's the most current log: server-63598103113.txt
Luke 42083 Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 Thanks. First, please discuss a specific example that occurred during the time frame of the log.
Lighthammer 91 Posted May 6, 2016 Author Posted May 6, 2016 The most recent one that would be in that log is Marvel's Agents of SHIELD. I added the IMDB tag to the folder so that this was now considered a new entry. It sat on the server for 48 hours without the server identifying it. I manually ran "Scan Library" and it didn't pick it up. The scan completed once from a manual run and at least once from the automated run every 12 hours. When I went to identify it, it preplaced the series date and IMDB tag in the search field and found it immediately. In the same time frame, I also updated Arrow in the same way and the server found it without fail, grabbed the series cover, but wouldn't grab the season covers or extra episode / chapter images until I physically looked at them. This feels like a cacheing problem to me where it tends to grab earlier series / movies (in ABC order) but as it gets to end it begins to stall. To be clear, on this server, there are: - 200+ series - 1500+ movies - 1500+ music albums There's around 12 TB in total in media.
Luke 42083 Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 if you renamed it but left existing metadata inside the folder, then that would be why. when you have existing metadata, that's what gets used.
Lighthammer 91 Posted May 6, 2016 Author Posted May 6, 2016 (edited) That would be fine if it didn't need to redownload new meta data, but its neither using the meta data nor downloading new meta data. Also, that being said, I have *NEVER* had something reuse old meta data after renaming it. I've done this a lot in the past. You may recall about a year ago (a little more then) I renamed all my files to include the year of release within square brackets ("[","]") and it didn't do that then either. Luke 42083 Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 The server will always use existing metadata when available. Again the server log seems to be from after the fact so it's difficult to tell what happened.
Lighthammer 91 Posted May 6, 2016 Author Posted May 6, 2016 Well, I'm continuing to update titles (a section a day is what I am aiming for). What point would help you best in determining the problem?
Lighthammer 91 Posted May 12, 2016 Author Posted May 12, 2016 I need a way to tell the server "Go get all the missing art" because it's just not doing anything. It's properly identified all the media, but it refuses to grab the art unless explicitly told to.
Luke 42083 Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 you can always refresh a top level folder from within the metadata manager. just be aware there's currently no way to monitor the refresh queue, so the best thing to do is just let it go for a while.
Lighthammer 91 Posted May 12, 2016 Author Posted May 12, 2016 Does that mean a feature is coming soon-ish ?
Luke 42083 Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 Having that sort of monitoring is on the roadmap, yes. in the meantime, although you can't see it's progress, it will do what you're looking to do.
Lighthammer 91 Posted May 28, 2016 Author Posted May 28, 2016 So, I wanted to toss out that the big problem I seemed to have been experiencing is the checkbox for "Enable Real Time Monitoring" seemed to have become unchecked at some point. Manage Server -> Library -> Advanced -> Enable Real Time Monitoring That being said, the system seems to periodically stall and stop fetching data. Through a combination of manually making the requests and server restarts, it got there, but it took around a week.
Luke 42083 Posted May 29, 2016 Posted May 29, 2016 when set to Auto, the server may change it to disabled if your file system repeatedly reports errors when using it. If you need to have it on then you should set it to Yes.
